DRAW-BAR CARRIER.

To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, IIERBER'I E. VAN Donn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chico 0, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draw-Bar Carriers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings. and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specifics tion.
This invention relates to an improved type of carrier or support for the drawbar on a ca r. and in the particular construction illustrated one wherein the drawbar is con nected at one end to a draft gear and. at its other end has attached thereon a. coupler head which is held properly supported by It is an object therefore of this invention to construct a device adapted for sliding connection with a. guide beneath the car and with the end. of a dra-wbar to permit movement of the drawbar about its pivot and also to permit a longitudinal movement of the drawbar consequent upon variations in the position of its pivot due to movement of the parts of the draft gear to which the drawbar is connected.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a construction wherein a drawbar is so constructed as to cooperate with a'supporting member which has slidable move ment beneath a I car to permit swinging movement of the drawhar about its pivot. as well as longi'tudinal-move|nent thereof due to variations in position of the elements of ,the draft gear to which the drawbar is conneeted.
It is furthermore an important object of this invention to provide in combination with a. longitudinally,movable and pivoted drawbar means for supporting the same in any position of adjustment. thereof.
It is finally an object of this invention to constructa device for supporting the drawbar in all positions of -adjustnient; permitting easy movement of said drawbar into any position and provided with wear plates toobviate to a great extent appreciable wear on the-construction.
The invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in thedrawings and hereinafter more fully described.

Pivoted in a lower extension at the end of the drawbar 5, on a pintle' bolt 16, is a lever 17, one end of which bears upwardly beneath the coupler head 8, to hold the same upwardly, and the other end of which is held thrust downwardly to support said coupler head by a compression spring v18, coiled about a bolt 19, disposed vertically in a cored out portion in the end of said drawbar 5, and extendingslidably through a slot in the end of said lever 17.

' I claim-as my invention:
1,, In a device of the class describedthe -confibination with a car and its draft gear said drawbar slidebly engaging through another channeled portion of said block whereby said drawbar is sup orted from said track in all positions of a justment of the drawbar.
2. In a device of the class described the combination with a car and its draft gear and drawbar ivotally mounted thereon, of a curved tracii member secured to the car, a block channeled for engagement therewith to slide thereon, a T-sha'p'ed portion formed on said drawbar slidably engaging through another channeled portion in said block, said block recessed in said respective channeled portions, wear plates seated in said recesses to bear upon the curved track and upon the T-shaped portion of said drawbar respectively, and means retainin said wear plates associated with said bloc 3. The combination with a car and its drawbar, of a guide member secured to the car, a block slidable thereon, means aflording a slidable connection between said block and drawbar, and a plurality of wear plates recessed into said block for contact with the guide member and said means.
