Application filed December 14, 1914. Serial No. 877,142.
Be it known that I, JOHN SAMUEL, of the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada, a subject of the King of Roumania, and useful Improvements in Belt Attachments; and I do hereby declare' that the f ollowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates particularly to ther attachments for belts whereby theyare retained against vertical displacement, and it has for its object to provide abuckle adaptedl to perform the dual function of a fastener for a belt and a retainer for the belt preventing vertical displacement.
My invention consists essentially of a buckle for a belt adapted to encircle the body and comprises essentially means for fastening the buckle to one end of the belt, means for- -ad`ustably fastening of the elt thereto. and, as a component and integral part, a plate-.like member with a hook for preventing vertical displacement l of the buckle and consequently the belt from proper trousers supporting position, this hook being formed by a piece of the bucklehook, which is of plate-like form, partially separated therefrom and offset relatively thereto, the purpose of this hook being thatl the ,hook may be inserted into or beneath the usual fastening device for the front of the waist-band of the trousers.
For full comprehension, however, of my invention, reference must be had to the accompanying drawings in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts, and wherein- A Figure 1 illustrates tachment in use;

linger (m), the pair of fingers being united together'and to the buckle by a bracin Web forming an integral part thereof.' n the 4case of the pair of fingers they are spaced a suicient dlstance apart shank of a button; and in the case of the single linger (m), it is preferably formed parallel to the longitudinal central plane of the buckle and of flat andcOmparatiVeIy narrow cross-section so as tp readily enter the common hook-like catch illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. Both pairs of fingers and the single linger have their free ends facin toward the end (d) of the buckle at whic the belt'is connected, in order that the device beingfirst made to engage the shank of the button or *other trousers fastener, the tension of the belt When being tightened will be caused to draw the device into effective engagement.
to straddle thev With my improved device the ends of the" I belt may be connected together and with the assistance of the trousers fastener held against vertical displacement, without the use of any extraneous device.
What I claim is as follows:
, 1. A belt buckle comprising means for fastening the same toone end of a belt and means adjustably fastening the opposite end v of thebelt thereto, and the said buckle havmg ber with a hook for the purpose described -within theboundaries of the member` and formed "-by a tongue-like piece of the plate partially separated therefrom and offset relatively theretozI f 2. A belt buckle comprising means for fastening the same to one end of a belt and lmeans foradjustably fastening the opposite `vend of the' beltfthereto, andthe said buckle having a;plate-'likeback` with a hook for the purpose described within the boundariesvof the-back andformed from a tongue-like piece of thefba'ck partially separate therefrom andoifset relatively thereto.
3'. A belt buckle comprising means for fastening the same to onel end of a belt .and means for adjustably fastening `the'oppcsite `:end of the belt thereto', and the said buckle as a component part a plate-like mem-- having an integral plate-like member with a 2 merma portion of the interior partially separated therefrom and o'set relatively thereto inthe form of a hook. v
4. A garment supporting tongueless sheet- 5 metal belt buckle consistlng of a unitary member of box-like form oblong in longitudinal'section and adapted to have one end of the belt fastened thereto and the opposite end passed longitudinally therethrough, the
10 sides of the buckle having slots each presenting an edge oblique to the rear side of the buckle, the said rear side extending parallel to the length of the belt, a transverse belt gripper carried loosely within the slots? and the back of the said [box-like member 15 being of'pla'te-like form with a hook adapty I ed to engage a fastening of the garment and consisting of a tongue-like piece partiallyL separated therefrom and o'set relatively to the back of the buckle.` 20
ln testimony whereof l havegsigned my name to this specification in the presence of two Witnesses..
