NOTE-BOOK HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. FREUNDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hammond, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Note-Book Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to book supports and more particularly to a holder for supporting stenographers note books and the like, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a note book support of the above character which will be simple'in construction, cheap to manufacture, and is collapsible and easily capable of packing in a small space. 7

Another object of my invention is to provide means for retaining the note book in position on the support, and also to provide means for adjusting the support at a desired angle.

With the above and other objects in view my invention resides preferably in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved book support;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same showing the manner of supporting a note book, the note book being illustrated in dotted lines.

Fig. 3 is a fragmental detail in plan showing the formation of the offset portions in the divergent arm.

Similar reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the various views of the drawings.

Referring more particularly to the drawing in which the preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated, I provide a frame preferably formed of a single strand of wire 1 into substantially rectangular configuration to provide the side portions 2 and 3. The free ends of the single strand of wire 1 are twisted together as shown at 1 and bent into parallelism with the frame 1 to afford a book holder.

The side portions 2 and 3 are provided with eyes 7 said eyes being formed at the upper corners of the frame 1. Side portions 2 and 3 are also provided at a point substantially intermediate the ends with. eyes 8, said Specification of Letters Patent.

In order to maintain the frame in an incline'd position to support a note book, I provide a supporting leg formed of a single strand of wire 9, the said strand of wire 9 being bent upon itself intermediate the ends as shown at 10, to provide parallel portions twisted as shown at 11 and slightly offset at 12 to provide a loop, the said offset portion being bent inwardly at 18. The strand of wire 9 is formed to provide divergent arms 14', the outer end of the said divergent arms 14 being provided with eyes 15 for engagement with the eyes 7, so as to hingedly mount the said supporting legon the frame. The strand9 is provided with a loop 16 to afford a foot.

In order to retain the supporting leg at a desired angle to the frame I provide a brace member formed of a single strand of wire and bent upon itself to provide divergent arms 17 the said divergent arms having their outer ends provided with eyes 18 for engagement with the eyes 8 of the frame. The strand of wire forming the arms 17 is sinuated to provide offset portions of varying sizes, designated 19 and 20, which are adapted to embrace the arms 14, as shown to advantage in Fig. 1. The constricted por tions 21 formed by the sinuation of the strand of wire affords a throat through which the inwardly bent portions 13 of the arms 14 may pass to adjust the latter. This arrangement permits the disengagement of the arms 14 and the brace by moving said arms through the throat. This will allow the frame and the supporting leg to be brought together, and the brace member will at this time be swung upwardly into parallel relation with the frame and the supporting leg so that a minimum space is taken by the de vice when folded.

In order to adjust the frame to different angles the divergent arms may be inserted between the offset portions 20, these portions being slightly shorter than the portions 19 and of course are nearer the point at which said brace member is hinged, thereby changing the inclination of said frame.

shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, one portion struction of the device. There are no plates of sheet metal or the like secured to the device, there is no soldering, and the device is readily collapsible for package into a small space;

WVhile I have shown and described my invention as possessing a peculiar form and construction, it is desired that it be understood that I may make such changes in the details thereof as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire-to secure by Letters Patent, is
