To all whom t may concemf Be ,it'known that I, MYER GoLiJnnIi, a citir zen of ltheUnited.States of America, residing at Birmingham, in the county ofJefferson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Ilunger-Oilers for Vatches and Clocks, of which i the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a plunger voiler more particularly adapted fo-r watches and clocks but which may be designed for effective service inv oiling any class of machinery.
The object of my invention is ,todesign an oiler which involves a positive vforce feed of a quantity of oil which is regulated by the extent to which the plunger or ejector is depressed, this plunger or ejector carrying therethrough the oil distributing duct and being adapted to force through said duct the Y desired amount of oil admitted below the plunger. In the form in which I use my invention va plunger barrel is provided within the oil receptacle and has openings therein to admit oil below the plunger which travels with a close sliding' iit therein. The plunger itself is normally pressed outwardly by a spring and is adapted to be retracted in the barrel by a hollow stem having an oil outlet port adjacent to the plunger. Suitable means are provided for preventing the leakage of oil about the stem.
My invention is so designed that in its normal operation there will be no gravity flow of oil but only a plunger force feed of oil in quantities which may be regulated by practice so that only the exact amount of oil required will be discharged.
My invention will be better understood by reference 'to the accompanying drawings, in which I have illustrated only its preferred embodiment, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section through a plunger oiler for watches and clocks.
Fig 2 is an enlarged view of the plunger barrel broken away; and
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the plunger with its oil distributing actuating stem partly broken away.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
As illustrated, I show the oiler casing 1 as an elongated tubular body having one end closed and the other end internally threaded at 2. A plunger barrel 3 is adapted to be inserted into the casing 1 having near one end threads 4 adapted to mesh with the Specicationiof Letters Patent.

This coiled spring 10 surrounds a `guide pin 11 on the upper end of the plunger 9 and is adapted to be inserted into the barrel through its upper open end which is normally closed by a screw plug 12. Each oil hole 8 is provided with a downwardly tapering notch 13, the purpose of which will be later described.
The plunger 9 fits with a close slidingiit in the chamber 6 of the barrel and has connected to its under end an operating stem 14 having an oil distributing duct 15 extending lengthwise therethrough with an inlet port 16 just under the plunger. makes a close sliding iit in the guide tip 17 of the barrel beyond which its outer end projects a substantial distance.
In operation, the barrel is unscrewed from the casing and the latter filled with oil, the barrel has the plunger 9 and spring 10 inserted therein and the cap 12 screwed in to hold the parts assembled, after which the barrel itself is screwed in, closing the open end of the casing and the oiler is ready for service. In using the oiler, the operator depresses the stem 111 against the action of the spring 10, forcing the plunger upwardly until its under end passes the notch 13 of the port 8, thereby admitting oil below the plunger. The quantity of oil is determined by the extent to which the plunger moves opposite or past the supply openings 8 and 13. It being obvious that when the bottom end of the notch 13 is barely open an extremely small quantity of oil will enter below the plunger, whereas, when the plunger is raised as far as it may be by the stem, a full charge of oil accumulates below the plunger and is forcibly ejected thereby through the port 16 and duct, 15 and discharged through the end of the stein 14 at the point desired for applicarIhis stem tion.` An experienced operator can easily acquire a skilled use of the oiler so that the exact minimum requirements of oil can be Having thus described my invention,

l. A force feed oiler comprising an oil container, a plunger barrel therein, a plunger movable in the barrel, and a tubular stem carried by the plunger and having an oil inlet port below the plunger, there being means to admit oil below the plunger into the barrel.
2. A force feed oiler comprising an oil container, a plunger barrel therein, a plunlger movable in the barrel, a tubular stem carried by the plunger and having an oil inlet port adJacent to the plunger, there being means to admit oil beloW the plunger in the barrel, and means to prevent the leakage of oil about the stem.
3. An oiler of thecharacter described comprising a casing having an open end, a barrel Vin the casing having Oil ports entering a plunger chamber therein, a plunger making a tight sliding fit in the chamber, a stem projecting with a tight fit through the outer end of thev barrel and connected at its inner end to the plunger, there being an oil duct leading lengthwise through said stem and opening through the side thereof near the plunger, and spring means toforce the plunger so as to cause the stem to project from the barrel and to close theY inner end of the oil duct, substantially as described.
