Be it known that I, ERNEST H. PEABODY, a
citizen of the United States, resid-ing at New York, in thecounty of New York and/State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements l1n ,'Atomizers or Spraying Devices, of which the following 1s a' specification.
My invention relateslto liquid atomizers and more particularly to onefor atomizing fuel oil, whereby the ollgmay be atomized and injected int'o the combustion chamberof a furnace, in the form of spray, by means of mechanical action induced by pressure.

and 1X the goose neck in which is formed thev inlet port 2 leading to the enlarged chamber 3 is a strainer 6 of any `suitable -nozzle 7 X.

The nozzle 7X may be formed with any desired number of .passages 8, four of said passages being tangential ducts 14 in the face of the tip.
The forward end of the nozzle is eX teriorly threaded to receive a cap 10 having a central Opening 10 adapted to receive the central extended portion of the tip and to bear against the tip to clamp it Ifirmly in position upon the face of the nozzle. -The face of the cap is concaved at an angle so as to correspond with the -concavity in the end of the tip as clearly indicated in Fig. 3.

When passing through the central chamber 13 of the tip, the liquid is givena 'rapid whirling motion, and is a given time and under given condition,
such as natural or forced draft. I-Ieretofore, it has been the practice to interpose .between the tip and the face of the nozzle a separate member formed with ducts which, when the parts are assembled, are tangential to the wall" of the tip chamber, In the use of atomizers, itis frequently necessary when working conditions are changed to substitute va tip having a different sized discharge orifice, or the member having the 105 tangential ducts and, dueto faulty assembling of atomizers having discharge orifice in one piece and the tangential ducts in another piece, the proper ratio 0f the areas of' the oriiice and the ducts is not maintained.
` IVhen a tip having `a` relatively small 'discharge orifice is assembled with a separate piece having relatively large 'tangential ducts, the 'fuel may emerge in a stream and not beproperly atomized` Also, When a tip with a relatively large discharge orifice is assembled with a separate piece having relatively small tangential ducts, the atomiza i f tion of the oil may be excessive and fail to meet the required Working conditions. 'By making a plurality of unitary members,
each having a detinite area ratio between the discharge oriice and the tangential ducts, I thereby provide means to meet vaf rying working conditions of fuel and pressure and obviate all faultyr assembling.
