MOUNT FOR PHOTOGRAPHS,
Application filed June 30, 1915.
if '0 all to ham it may concern Be it known that 1, Joan BLYTI-I, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of lfllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mounts for Photographs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the reference numerals marked thereon My present invention relates to photography and more particularly to the simple types of frames or mounts used for holding photographic prints so that they will be protected and attractively set off, such mounts being usually provided in the form of paper or cardboard folders and the invention has for its object to provide an eflicient and sightly mount of this character made from a single blank or sheet of mate rial so that the cost of production thereof may be materially reduced and the forming up greatly simplified. The invention contemplates the provision of a backing, side flaps and corner flaps in which latter the photograph is seated and retained, all from the one piece. To these and other ends the invention resides in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claim at the end of the specification,
lln the drawings:
lFigure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which is formed a mount constructed in accordance with and illustrating one embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the mount formed up and with a photograph in place therein;
big. 3 is a section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.",
lFig. a is an enlarged detail plan view of one of the corner retaining extensions of the blank;
lFig. 5 is a similar view of the extension with the attaching flap portion thereof folded over preliminary to securing it to the face of the backing, and
lig. 6 is another similar view with the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 11, 191'? Serial No. 37,171.
corner retaining extension secured down in operative position by the attaching flap.
Similar reference numerals throughout the several figures indicate the same parts.
As previously indicated, the mount is preferably made of heavy paper or cardboard from a substantially rectangular blank which, as shown in Fig. 1, comprises a central backing portion 1, and side flaps 2 and 3 connected thereto by scored lines t and 5, respectively, so as to fold over and cover the backing. The top and bottom edges of the backing portion 1 at points near the intersection of the scored lines 1 and 5 have preferably triangular extensions e PIUCGHIW ing therefrom and extended from the lateral or right angle edge of each such extension is a similar attaching flap 7, also preferably triangular, as shown. The lines of connection, both between the extensions 6 and the backing 1 and between the flap 7 and the extensions had also best be scored as at 8 and 9, respectively.
In assembling or forming up the mount, the attaching flap 7 of each extension (5 is first folded. over upon the latter, as shown in Fig. 5, and then the two are folded down against the front face of the backing 1, as shown in Fig. 6, the flap 7 being between the retaining member or extension 6 and the backing, as appears from Fig. 3. l Vhen so folded over, glue or other means is employed for securing the attaching flap 7 permanently to the face of the backing, while a retaining pocket or seat is left between the members 6 and 7.
The picture or photograph indicated at 10 in Fig. 2 is inserted beneath the corner retaining extensions 7 in the usual manner and the flaps 2 and 8 may be folded over on the lines 4; and 5 to protect it. The retaining members 6 at the lines 9 where they merge into the attaching flaps 7 are preferably off set from the said scored lines t and 5 as shown in all the views so that the flaps 2 and 3 will be free to swing, and will lie fiat against the face of the backing.
The whole affair being made from a single piece of material greatly simplifies the blanking out process and also lends itself to the forming up or assembling and pasting of the device mechanically as distinguished from the hand Work usually required.
I claim as my invention:
A mount for photographs comprising a backing and folding side flaps all made of a'single sheet of material and corner retaining extensions integral with and proceeding from the top and bottom edges of the backing and folded down and secured Wholly 10 upon the front face of the latter to lie beneath the side flaps when folded.
