T 0 all whom it may concern lilo it known that l, Vrnoinjm ll. Lorain, a citizen of the United Eltateai'esiding at Uentervillc, in the county of Queen rinncs and State of ll laryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in finitflanks, of which the following is a specifica tion.

This invention relates to an improved suit rack and has as its primary object to provide a device of this character more particularly designed for supporting one or more suits of clothes, coats, or other articles of wearing apparel in convenient position.

The invention has as a further object to provide a device of this character employing an extensible bracket carrying a number of loops each adapted to receive the usual coat hanger and wherein the said loops will also act to pivotally connect the coacting ele ments of the bracket.

The invention has as a further object to provide a rack of the above described char acter wherein the extensible bracket will be held against sagging and will also be supported from the floor by a post so that the said bracket cannot easily become displaced.

Other and incidental objects will appear as the description proceeds and in the drawings wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention and wherein similar reference characters designate correspondin parts throughout the several views:

lln carrying out the invention, my improved suit raclr is preferably formed with a supporting post which may be arranged to seat against a wall to be secured thereto by a plurality of lateral lugs ll. ht its lovver extremity, the post 10 is preferably provided with a foot 12 to rest against the floor and preferably, the said foot, as well as the lower extremity of the post, is formed to receive screws or other suitable fasten ing devices so that the lower end. of the post may be rigidly held in position.

I l-Extending outmirdly from the upper e1:- tremity of the post 10 are spaced cars 13 and supported by the said cars, is an 6K- tensible bracket 14:. l his bracket is pref erahly con strnctml upon the principle of the ordinary lazy tongs, comprising a plurality of crossed bars or slats 15. Pivotally connecting the said bars, at their upper extremities, are a plurality of rivets or other suitablefastening devices 16 while similar elements U a re employed for pivotally connecting the said bars at their points of intersection. The bars 15, at the inner end of the bracket, are received between the cars 13 of the post 10 and are pivotally scoured thereto by a belt or other similar fastening device 18 while a handle or linger receiving loop 19 is pivotally connected to the meeting ends of the tern'iinal bars at the outer e1:- tremity of thehracket. For pivotally connecting the meeting ends of the bars 15, at their lower critremitics, ll provide a plurality of combined pivot and hanger loops 20 of the type particularly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Each of these loops is preferably formed from a length of wire bent adjacent one extremity to provide a? lateral lug ill. from which projects a shank 29.. This shank is arranged to extend through the meeting ends of a pair of the bars for pivotally connecting the said bars and is then offset shown at 23. From the offset the length of wire is bent to provide the depend ing hanger loop when the free extremity of the wire is looped about the shank 22 as shown at to be held in position by the lug 21. The lower terminals of each pair of the bars 15 will thus be held between the loops 2-1 and the offsets 23 with the shanks 29. of the said hanger loops pivotally connecting the said bars. Arranged to project from the upper extremity of the post 10 are spaced lateral arms 26 arranged to extend upon opposite sides of the bracket 14 above the cars 13 to hold the bracket against lateral movement with respect to the said post. These arms 26 will, therefore, materially contribute to the stability of the device and *ill tend to guide the bracket in its movement when being extended. Formed through the arms 26 to ex-- tend longitudinally thereof, are oppositely disposed slots 27 and arranged to roll within the said slots, is a transverse pin 28. The shown in Fig. 2, arranged to extend through a slot 29 -formed in the uppermost bar 15 of the bracket at its inner extremity. Consequently, when the bracket 14 is extended, the said bar of the bracket will shift the pin 28 to engage within the outer ends of the slots 27 while the pin will move within the slot 29 of the bar to engage within the upper extremity of the said slot with the pin then acting to rigidly support the said bar and limit the bar in its downward pivotal movement. The pin 28 will, therefore, provide a slidable connection between the guide arms 26 and the bracket for holding the said bracket against sagging and will act to communicate any downward stress upon the bracket directly to the post 10 to be supported thereby. A, rigid and efiicient structure is thus produced and a rack which will be found highly practical and eflicient in actual use.

Having thus described is claimed as new is:

1. A device of the character described including a, supporting post, an extensible bracket carried thereby, a hanger member carried by said bracket, and guide arms projecting longitudinally from the said post upon opposite sides of the bracket for directing the bracket when being extended and holding the said bracket against swinging movement with respect to the post.

A device of the character described including a supporting post, an extensible bracket carried thereby and formed with a plurality of crossed pivoted elements, spaced arms projecting longitudinally from the post upon opposite sides of the bracket, and a sliding connection between said arms and my invention, what Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,

one of said elements at a point intermediate the ends thereof for holding the bracket against sagging.

3. A device of the character described including a supporting post, an extensible bracket carried thereby and formed with a plurality of crossed coacting members, and a combined pivot and hanger element carried by a pair of the said members, the said element being formed from a length of material bent to provide a shank extending through and pivotally connecting the said pair of members with the said shank provided at one extremity with a lug confronting one of the members of said pair and at its opposite extremity with an offset confrmiting the other member of said pair, the length of material being extended from said oil set to provide a loop for receiving a hook and being looped at its free extremity about the said shank to be retained by the said lug with the said pair of members held between the said last mentioned loop and the said ofl'sct.

4. A device of the character described including an elongated post formed at its lower extremity with an angularly disposed foot adapted to fit within the angle between a wall and floor for engagement with the floor, an attaching element carried by the upper extremity of the said post for connection to the wall for supporting the said post in upright position, an extensible bracket carried by the post and formed of a plurality of crossed pivotally connecting elements. and a hanger member carried by the said bracket.

5. A device of the character described including a supporting post, an extensible bracket carried thereby, a hanger member carried by said bracket, elongated guide arms projecting laterally from the post at opposite sides of the bracket and formed with oppositely disposed slots, and means slidably fitted within said slots and loosely engaging the bracket for holding the bracket against sagging.

6. A device of the character described ineluding a supporting post, an extensible bracket carried thereby and formed of a plurality of crossed pivotally connecting elements, a hanger member carried by the bracket, elongated guide arms projecting laterally from the post at opposite sides of the said bracket and embracing one of said elements, and a slidable connection between the said element and the said arms for holding the bracket against sagging.
