Description

A. SCHROETTER. v PIVOT MOUNTING FOR PINS AND SIMILAR ARTICLES.
APPLICATION mm APR. 18. 1917.
Patented Dec. 11, 1917 I TTOR/WE l l l:
ARNOLD SCI-IROETTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Application filed April 18, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNOLD SCHROETTER, a citizen of the United States,-and a resident of New York city, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im prc vements in Pivot- Mountings for Pins and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a pivot mounting of novel construction, which is particularly adapted for open-work pins, brooches or similar articles, though it may also be applied to solid articles.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a front view of a pin provided with a pivot mounting embodying my invention;
Fig. 2, a side view thereof;
Fig. 3, a section on line 33 Fig. 4, and
Fig. 4, a rear view of the pivot mounting detached.
The pivot mounting comprises a base 1, having a concaved upper face and a plurality of integral downwardly projecting prongs 2. These prongs are adapted to be soldered to an open-work or filigree pin, brooch, or similar article 3, the prongs being bendable so that they can be readily alined with the solid parts or webs of said article.
The upper concaved side of base 1, carries an integral barrel shaped or biconical knuckle section 4., having truncated ends, said knuckle section being axially bored for 1 the accommodation of a pintle 5. The knuckle section is bisected at its center to form a transverse slot 6, adapted for the reception Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. ff, i917.
Serial No. 162,847.
of an eye 7 formed on the heel of the fastening pin 8, said eye being engaged by pintle 5. The base 9 of slot 6, has a slight outward taper, and the eye 7, is provided with a cut away or unround section 10, which is adapted to engage the base. The free end of pin 8 is adapted to engage a keeper 11 shown to be provided with a latch 12.
When the pin is being closed, the unround section 10 of eye 7, will by bearing upon the tapering base 9, cause the pin to spring into the keeper, and to be tightly held to the same. When the pin is opened, the unround section will limit the angle of its rotation so that the pin cannot be thrown off to an undue extent.
The pivot mounting constructed as described is of great strength, of neat appearance, insures a tight closure, may be readily applied to open work articles, and does not form an objectionable or visible solder joint between said article and the mounting.
I claim:
1. A pivot mounting for pins and similar articles comprising a base, a plurality of prongs depending therefrom, and a slotted barrel-shaped knuckle integral with the base.
2. A pivot mounting for pins and similar articles comprising a base, a plurality of prongs depending therefrom, a barrelshaped knuckle having a tapering slot, 2. closing pin, and an eye on said pin, said eye having an unround section adapted to engage sald slot.
ARNOLD SCHROETTER.
