IMPROVEMENT IN SHOULDER-BRACES AND SUSPENDERS COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,913, dated March 26, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Shoulder-Braces and Suspenders Combined, made by FRED (J. PRATT and GEORGE W. WHITNEY, of the city of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio.
Our improvement relates to the combination of certain straps or bands in such a manner that said straps or bands shall better subserve the objects of ashoulder-bra-ce, and making the same more economically, made lighter,
and more comfortable to wear.
Figure 1 is a View of the back of the brace. Fig. 2 is a front View of the brace.
Like letters in the drawing refer to like parts.
In Figure 1, A A are caps, coming over the shoulders of the wearer in front and fitting upon the. extreme points of the shoulder, and
upon which the whole pressure of the brace falls. E E are straps or bands, at one end attached to the points of A A in front, as shown in Fig. 2, and at the other end attached, by means of ordinary suspender straps and buckles, to the pants or skirts of the wearer, in front. B B are straps or bands, attached to the caps A A at at d and crossing each other on the back of the wearer, and at e 0 attached, by means of buckles, to the straps D D, and, by means of ordinary suspender straps and buckles, to the pants or skirts of the wearer, at the back. 0 is an elastic band, attached to the caps A A at the points (1 d, and crossing the shoulders and back of the wearer. D D are straps or bands, attached in front to the bands E E, and at the back attached to B B by means of buckles, as aforesaid.
The straps B B draw upon the caps A A on the points of the shoulders in a line diagonally across theback of the wearer, the straps 0 drawing upon the caps A A in a direct line across the shoulders of the wearer. The straps D D operate with the straps B B to regulate the pressure of the caps A A on the shoulder points, and also to keep the said caps A A in their position. The straps B B, D D, and 0, thus operating together, bring the shoulders into a natural position, at the same time leavin g a free use of the arms and shoulders of the wearer; and also, by doing away with the heavy square form at the back, render the brace lighter and more comfortable to the- Witnesses:
