To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. JonNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at NewYork in the'county .of New York and State of ew York, have'invented new and 4 useful Improvements in Ci ar Cases and o which the followlng isa specication. IThis invention relates to a combined cigar case and cutter.`
The primar object of the present'invention is to pro uoe a cigar case, by means of l A be conveniently carried in the pocket without liability of breakage and -to provide within the case means for cuttin the end of l 4off the cigars as is the usua custom., Y 4
further object of the invention 1s the provision of a case, containlng means for yieldingly holdin therein a plurality o the cigars ing held in a manner to the ends being cut therefrom, and
amg. A still further ob'ect of the invention is in housed therein a cutter by means of w ich the smoker may remove the ends from cigars in a convenient and sanitary manner, obviatin the necessity of using a common cigar cu ter and thereby avoiding the danger of contraction of infectious or contagious diseases arisin therefrom.
With the'above and ot er objects in view the j invention consists of a cigar case provided'at one end witha cylinder, a plurality of? opcnin s -in the said. cylinder, the said omngs eing surrounded with thimbles a pted to receive the ends of the cigars, a cutter movable across these openings and a yieldin ly mounted spring actuated plate adapte to-engage the opposite ends of the ci ars in order to retain them in position.
n the drawings; f
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cigar case constructed in accordance with the present invention, in closed position;
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same showing the cigars therein by dotted lines;
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view;
Fi 5 is a detail perspective view of the thim les removed from the case and illusopening 1s adapte trating the mannen of forming the same from a slngle piece of material and showing the `connect-ions between each of the th1mbles;.
Fig. 6 is a detail follower plate; andV Fi 7 1s a detail vertical longitudinal sectiona' view of the lower portion of the case showing the modified form of the cutter. V
Re-ierring'in detail to the drawings, the
perspective 'view of the .improved case which is preferably constructed of metal, is shown at 1. t comprises a back, 2 a front 3 and curved side walls 4 and end walls 5 and 6 respectively. The front 3 is formed with an opening including practicall its entire area and this to be closed by a hinged door 7, which is held in position by means of a catch '8 of any suitable construction.- The case is of a size to be conveniently carried in the pocket and is shown-in the drawings as adapted to carry four cigars of the usual' size, although it is 'of course obvious that it may be ymade to accommodate various numbers.
Formed within the end 6 of the casing is a cylinder 9, the said cylinder bein slightly shorter in length than the width o the case to provide inset ortions 10 at each end thereof. Formed 1n the -cylinder'and communicating with the interior of the case are a plurality of openings 11, being beveled as at 12 for the purpose of guiding the cigar ends therethrough as will be presently apparent. Surrounding each of the openings 11 are conical ends'of these thimbles being of a diameter slightly greater than the openings 11. As will be seen from Fig. 5 of the drawings these thimbles are formed from a sin le piece of material stamped or cut in t e v proper form and shape so as to provide a plurality of thimbles joined together at their upper or larger ends by means of a connectln -strap 14. as will be readily under-` stood.y his strap aids in preventing any 'tendency of the thimbles to become disarran ed or. disengaged from the cylinder as mig t be the case were each thimble separately secured and having no connection with one another.
The thimbles just described are`designed to form a guiding and holding means for the ends of the cigars to be acted upon by the cutter, and in order to securely hold the thimbles 13, the lower reduced cigare illu-ein, the oase is furllmr provirlfld. may be lnndad t n and with u spring :med follower plate 15. actuated to nmnve the emL i J2` This plate la [we m'nbly urmlnie in cmu seclFrom tha t'lhnin 'lion and has formed un euch end n. dependwllnotlgn mth hln ent arm 16 provided with a light angular itv Il bhlvad thnt-thgfannltnluhmflqd lannion 1li, which hun therein nl o g mmm diltlli iljlenhnn Wm l "iJ-M 1a.
