This invention relates to toys and has forits principal object the provision of novel, lnterestlngy and amusing toy 1n which pleasing sounds and whlstling-llke noises canbe madeaudible as the toy is turned.

A feature of the invention resides'inthe simplicity of construction, coupled with'a peculiar assoclation of certain parts of the structure whereby access can be conveniently gained to the interior thereof for the purpose of repairing and for the further purpose of facilitating the initial assembling of parts.

With the above and other objects in View which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, has been illustrated a single and preferred form of the invention, it being however, understood that no limitations are necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a side view of the toy.

Fig. 2 is a vertical section therethrough, with parts in elevation.

The toy consists of a sectional handle 1, the section 2, thereof being continued into the section 3, so that the two sections when united form a substantially globular hand hold or grip. Through this arrangement the structure is such that it can be conveniently grasped in one hand of the operator and actuated conveniently by the other hand. The section 3, is provided with a lateral opening 4:, for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The sections have threaded connection with each other at 5, in order that they can be separated conveniently and initially assembled expeditiously. A member 7, is mounted to rotate on the memberl, and as shown, it is provided with a reduced shaft 8, the lower end of which extends into the socket" or passage 6, where it adapted to freely rotate. These bodies form the sounding elements of the toy and each is provided with i an opening 11, whichis disposed in the same longitudinalline with the cross arm 9. It thus follows that when rapid rotary motion is transmitted to the member 7, the bodies 10-10, will catch the wind and through the provision of the openings 11, said bodies take the form of a whistle and rather pleasing sounds are caused to come from said bodies as said member 7, is operated. The bodies 10, are preferably spherical as shown in order that they may be ornamented in a novel and attractive manner. They are preferably formed of tin and may be painted or enameled if desired.

Motion is imparted to the member 7, by means of a cord 12, which is freely movable through the opening 4:. This cord has one of its ends secured to the shaft 8, and it may be wound about said shaft initially by giving the member 7, a few turns by the hand. The outer end of the cord is provided with a finger ring 13. By pulling back and forth upon the ring 13, the cord will be first wound in one direction upon the shaft and then in another, and corresponding movements will be transmitted to the memher 7 in order that pleasing efiects upon the eye and ear will be continuously set up. The guide opening 1, forms a means for guiding the cord upon the shaft and for uniformly causing the same to be wound thereon. The shaft is capable of slight longitudinal movement in the sections 2 and 3 and in the step bearing while it is being rotated. This permits uniformity in the winding of the cord upon the shaft. As stated, one end of the cord is secured to the shaft and incident thereto the latter is held against casually escaping from the sections 2 and 8, by centrifugal force.

What is claimed as new is l. A sounding toy comprising, a handle formed of separable threadedly connected sections arranged in superposed manner, the

lower section having an extension provided with a vertical passage, a shaft passingthrough both sections, and freely movable in the upper section and terminating in the passage in the lower section, means for re- 'VOlVlIlg' the, shaft, and sounding devices carried by said shaft and consisting of hollow spherical bodies each having an opening therein as and for the purpose specified.

A sounding toy comprising, a sectional handle, a shaft journaled therein, one of the sections of the handle having a relatively long extension freely receiving one end of theshaft and adapted to permit the same to move in a longitudinal direction therein, a cord secured atone end to the shaft at a point between V the handle sections and adapted to be wound therearound and to'be manually operated torevolve the shaft, a cross arm on the shaft and spherical bodies secured to the ends of thecross arm, each of said bodies having an opening therein arranged in the same horizontal line with said cross arm as and for the purpose specified. 3. A sounding toy comprising a globular handle having openings in its top and through one side and an extension at its hot tom containing a step bearing in line with the top opening, a shaft journaled in said top opening with its lower end mounted in the step bearing and its upper end rising above the handle, a cross arm on the protruding end of the shaft, sound-producing devices on the cross arm, and an operating cord passing through said side opening with its inner end attached to the shaft within the handle and its outer ends carrying a finger-ring.
