FLYING AND SPINNING TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
l I Patented Sept; 15, 1914.
v Application filed hiarch 25, 1914. Serial No. 827,160.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jozsnr Bnnnoz, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flying ind Spinning Toys, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in flying and spinning toys.
The primary object of the device is to provide an aerial toy adapted for an initial flying movement imparted thereto by reason of its own revolutions and its course being completed in spinning as a top' upon a fixed surface.
A further object of the device is to provide a spinning top with an aerial propeller and whereby the top first spins in a flying movement through the air and later continues its spinning upon the ground when the same is reached during its travel.
A still further object is to provide an extremely light spinning top with a flying propellin means and a means for spinning the propeller and top for a combined flying and spinning top operation.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is, better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views; Figure l is a side elevation of the device aboutto be actuated, the hands of the operator being shown in dotted lines, and, Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken through the shaft thereof and portions of the device being broken away.
Referring more in detailto the drawings, it will be noted that the main elements of the to consist of the rigid shaft 10 having a dou le propeller blade 11 rigidly secured upon said shaft and terminatin 'ning point 13 in alinement wit to one end thereof while its opposite end is provided with a hollow spherical body or two-part top 12, the latter being secured in a spinthe direction of the shaft 10, and at a diametrically opposite point upon the spherical top 12.
The shaft is provided at its substantially central point with an integral stop 14 for the reception of a cord 15 adapted to be wound thereon but unsecured thereto while between the top 12 and said spool a split sleeve 16 is positioned and longitudinally through which the shaft 10 is journaled.
From this detailed description of the device, the complete operation thereof is believed to be apparent in that, the cord 15 bein wound upon the spool 14 as illustrated in F 1g. 1, the shaft and propeller are rapidly revolved by pulling outwardly upon the free end of the cord while the sleeve 16 is firmly held in the other hand of the operator, all as illustrated in said figure. Such movement upon the point 13 of the top and which spinning of the top terminates with the ceasin of the shaft to further revolve.
While t e forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be preferable embodiments thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that various forms and modifications thereof may be had without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
hat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A toy comprising a shaft, an elevating propeller at one end and a hollow top at the other end thereof, a spool positioned substantially centrally of the shaft, a winding cord mounted upon said spool and a freely revoluble split sleeve journaled upon said shaft between said spool and top.
2. A device of the class described compris ing a hollow spherical top, a spinning adapted for unwinding simultaneously with polnt and a shaft secured in alinement with the revolving of said shaft. 10 each other extending from diametrically op- In testimony whereof I afiix my signature posite points upon said top, a propeller in presence of two witnesses.
blade secured to the free end of said shaft, 1 I J OZSEF BERECZ.
an integral central spool upon said shaft, a Witnesses:
split sleeve journaled between said spool and GEORGE PHJLLIPB,
top, and a cord wound upon said spool and MORRIS SzoLLosY.
