Description

TRUSS. APPLICATION FILIE FEEL'ZS. HMI.
'GEORGE D. 00931331, @E FLIRT, -ll/IECHIGAN.
TRUSS.
Specicaton` of Letters Batent iratentea nee; a, rait.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, GEORGE D. COOPER, a citizen -Of the United States of America, residing at Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses, Of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a truss and my invention aims to vfurnish a truss with a novel pad that may be correctly positioned over the pubic bone to protect the spermatic cord and close the inguinal canal. The padis adapted to cover the abdominal ring and hold the hernia back7 said pad being supported relative to a body by a harness so that the pad may follow body movements and thus prevent chafing or injury to the body.
My invention further aims to provide a truss pad of novel construction that may be comfortably worn at the pubic regions of the body for hernia trouble. This pad, together with the supporting means will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the truss;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view 4of the truss pad;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same, and
Fig. 4 is an edge view of a support partly in section.
The pad comprises a large section 1 and an annular small section 2, the former being of greater depth than the latter. rlhese sections are made of wood or similar material mounted on metallic plates 3 and 4 respectively. In the sections 1, adjacent the section 2, is a metallic sleeve 5 projecting through the metallic plate 3, and soldered or otherwise connected thereto. The section 1 is covered with leather 6 or a soft sanitary material having the edges thereof inturned on the metallic plate 3 to be held in engagement therewith by a back plate 7 connected tO the section 1 by screws 8 or other fastening means. The back plate 7 has an opening to receive the sleeve 5 and said back j piate is of sufficient .area to provide a backw ing for the annular section 2. This annular section has a cover '9 similar to the section 1 and saidicoveris heldin place by the Aback .plate 7.
1n the small section 2 is a center piece formed of a metallic disk 10 provided with a cover 11 and the disk 10 is connected to the plate 4 by a screw 12 or similar fastening means.
Mounted in the inner end of t-he sleeve 5 is a pin 13 and loosely held by said pin is a wabbler bolt 14 which protrudes from the sleeve 5 so that the bolt may be iiXed to per mit of the pad, in its entirety, adjusting itself relative to said bolt.
The harness or means employed for supporting the pad comprises a curved support 15, a belt 16, and a crotch strap 17. The support 15 has a metallic center piece 18 covered with leather Or a similar material, and one end of the support is inturned or curved, as at 19, and provided with an opening 20 to receive the threaded end of the wabbler bolt 14, which is hold relative to the support 15 by the nuts 21. The curved end 19 of the support 15 also has a stud 22 and connected to said stud is a clip 23 supported by an elastic member 24 at one end of the belt 16. The opposite end Of the belt 16 extends through a strap Or guide 25 car ried by the support 14 and is held by a conventional form of buckle or take-up device 26 carried by the support.
On the belt 16 is a slide or hip member 27 and connected thereto by a buckle or take-up device 28 is one end of the crotch strap 17, said strap having the opposite end thereof provided with a clip 29 for attachment to a stud 8O carried by the back plate 7 of the pad. The crotch strap 17 has a suitable cover 31 of soft yieldable material and this cover can be readily renewed from time to time in Order to maintain the crotch strap 17 in a sanitary condition.
When the truss is properly positioned upon a body, with the pad at the pubic regions thereof, the large section 1 covers the abdominal ring and holds the hernia back while the small section 2 and its center piece sets down over the pubic bone, protects the spermatic cord and closes the inguinal canal. Since the pad may wabble or adjust itself relative to the end of the support 15, said pad Will conform to body movements, and seek the softest position, Which is the abdominal ring. Since the pad may adjust itself relative to its support, it prevents ohafing and other injury to the body.
One embodiment of my invention has been illustrated, and it is to beunderstood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is l. A truss pad comprising large and small sections, and a Wabbler bolt extending into'l the large section of said pad contiguous to the small section thereof.
2. A truss pad comprising a large section, a small section at one side thereof, a center piece in the small section, and a wabblor bolt carried by the large section in proximity to the center piece of the small section. In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
