Patented Nov.. 23d, Emili application fue@ spin is, iai?. smal im. 133,052.
To cl3 whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that l, WALTER ALFRED Ginn a Subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of St. Johns, Province of Newy Brunswick, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful improvements i in Closures, and do hereby declare the iol lowing te be a full, clear, and exact description of saine,
This invention relates to devices for closing screw-threaded openings of articles such' applied and While being securely locked in position against accidental displacement, is
readily removable.,
For :te l comprehension, however, oi' my invention reference should be had to the acconipan 'ng drawings forming a part oftlais speci cation; in which siinilar reference characters indicate tbe saine parte and wherein;
Figure l is a side elevation, partly insection, of the closure;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the closure in position; and
Fig. 3 is a perspectlve `oft the retaining plate.

Pleierring now to the drawings 2 indicates the closure proper which consists of a plugor "disk of larger diameter than the opening to which it isto be applied and presenting: a beveled peripheral edge 3, and a plate or disk 5 of resilient material, spring metal, attached to the underside of tile closin cli-slr 2 so that the outer edge 0i the resilient disk has free movement in 'tbc axial planeo the'disls. The disk 5 is out radially from-the periphery at 6 and opened slightly to present a Wing 7 so that when the device is applied to a screw-threaded opening and turned this Wing gives'ent'rance of the dislr 5 to the thread and the disk being Pesilicnt follows the latter and being thus tile edge of the opening.
i The closing disk 2 is madepreferably of 'sheet metal pressed into dish forni to present the beveled 'edge and depressed at the center to form an angular wel] 8 constituting a key-way for the reception oi a key 6 9 by means of which the closure can be screwed. into or out of the opening. rl`be resilient dist: is apertured at l0 to take over the well and inay be attached to disk 2 by weldingV or by rivets or the like but 6 fastened thereto ,preferably throu fn the medium of lugs 11 struck up from t 1e disk 2 and extending therefrom through holes l2 in the resilient disk, over which latter the lugs are bent. The lugs are arranged dianietri'callyyopposite and located about inidway between tbe center oi? the device and periphery of tbe resilient dislr to permit of the movement of tile outer edge of such disk.l
The size of the resilient disk particoit larlv, varies with differently sized openings to which tbe closure is'to be applied, its diameter being substantially equal to the diameter of tbe groove of the thread with which it engages but es `xecially io greater 8 than the diameter of suoi threads. ln this way a positive engagement oi' tbe resilient disk` is secured and its clamping action upon the closing disli proper and consequent rw sistance to accidental displacement tlaereoi1 2 insured. This clampingection is augment/edil and a lierinetically tight joint between disk 2 and the article provided by a gasket which consists of a, rino i3 of leather, rubber orother suitable .yielding Amaterial sur rounding well. 8 and having its inner edge clamped between the two disks to hold it upon the beveled edge of tbe disk 2 in position to bear upon tbe edge of 'the opening of the article From the above it willl be seen that my yimproved closure can be readily applied to having' a Avioli pressed out therefrom, re-
silient disk apertur'dl to take over said Well and fastened to `the underside of the dish shaped disk, the outer edge of the resilient disk being free of the dish shaped disk and having a radial eut therein and a gasket surrounding the Well, and clamped between the two disks..
3. A 'closing device for screw-threaded openings consisting of a disk presenting beveled edges and having a central ano'ular well pressed out therefrom, lugs struetk up from the disk, a resilient disk apertured to take over said 'Well and having openings therein through which said lugs extend and are bent over the resilient disk, the outer edge of the resilient disk being free of the dish Vshaped disk and having a radial eut therein and af gasket upon the seid beveled edge und clamped between the two disks.
Ll. A Closing deviee for screw-threaded openings, consisting of a dish shaped disk having a Well pressed out therefrom, a resilient disk apertured to take over said Well and. fastened 'to the underside of the dish shaped disk, the outer edge of the resilient disk being free of the dish shaped disk and having a radial out therein.
In testimony whereof I have signed my' name to this specification.
