PICKER FOR LOOMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2d, llWlZ.
Application filed May 21, 1915. Serial No. 29,585.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SECONDO Donro, residing at Turin, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pickers for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
Pickers for looms are ordinarily made of hide and obtained by folding, one or more bands of hide to form a blank which is held together by staples or rivets and finally shaped by compressing it in a mold. These staples or rivets increase the weight of the picker and are liable to become loose in their holes owing to shocks and to rust.
Furthermore, the pickers thus formed contain planes of separation corresponding to the contacting surfaces of the folded band and are alSO liable to be damaged by repeated shocks.
It has been proposed to form pickers by casting and stamping in a mold a plastic material prepared from comminuted powdered raw hide, from paper pulp or the like, but pickers made of natural hide are preferred owing to the fact that the same retain the fibrous structure of the raw material and also possess great strength and resilience.
According to this invention, a picker is formed by stamping in a matrix a one-piece block of raw hide, said block having a single thickness 01. 0. formed by a single layer of hide so that the picker is free from rivets or staples and also from planes of separation so as to constitute a homogeneous and integral piece.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
Washington, D. G.
In the-annexed drawing is shown by way of example a picker for W001 looms, made according to this invention.
A one-piece block of raw hide is inserted in a matrix and the said block is pressed on the sides so that the material spreads out and occupies the whole space of the matrix.
In the form shown in the drawing there are two embossments, one of which forms the head a in which is then made, by means of a drill, the required hole, while the other one forms the striking head I). This head is formed by the material of the block which spreads out under the compression of the side walls of the matrix and is also compressed in the direction of the axis of the head so that the maximum of resistance is obtained.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent 1s 1- 1. A raw hide picker formed by a onepiece block of raw hide shaped by compression on all sides, the whole picker being free from planes of separation.
2. A raw hide picker formed by a onepiece block of raw hide shaped by compression on all sides, the picker being free from rivets.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SECONDO DURIO.
Witnesses CARLO Ton'rorr, Prnoorr ANOLIO.
