To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AXEL Pnnson, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckle-Clasps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a buckle clasp and more particularly to one especially adapted for use in connection with wrist watch straps.

An object of the invention resides in an 7 improved clasp or buckle having separable parts, one for each end of the wrist strap and detachably connected therewith, thev part carried by the normally detachable strap end associating itself with the securing means of the other part to retain the latter securely fastened on the normally fixed end of the strap.

The invention further resides in the practical and simple features of construction hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein Figure l is a side elevation of the improved buckle clasp in its operative position, a portion of the wrist strap being broken away.

Referring more in detail to the drawing, it will be noted that the buckle clasp comprises two separable and interlocking parts, the main or body part 1 of which being formed from a flat piece of sheet material having its edges turned up at right angles to provide side walls 2. One end of the body plate 1 is cut away between the side walls 2 with the adjacent portions being severed from the body but left integral with said walls for being turned upwardly against the latter to reinforce the side walls and form therewith a pair of projecting ears 3 and 4:. The ear 3 has the upturned reinforcement bent directly upon the side wall extension while the upturned body part of ear 4 is spaced from the projecting part of the adjacent side wall to constitute a U- shaped guide and housing for the interposed latch 5 which is pivotally mounted for swinging to and from between the sides of said housing thus provided.

One end of the wrist strap 6 is formed into a fixed loop 7 through which is passed the cross bar 8, one end of which isfiXed in the ear 3, preferably in a loose manner to permit of the opposite end swinging into and out of the slots 9, the latter being provided in the sides of the U-guide 4. When the free endof the cross bar is positioned in the guide slots, the latch is swung down over the bar to receive the same within its slot or seat 10 and thereby serve to retain the bar in its operative position. The guide slots 9 incline inwardly in the direction of pull on said bar, so that the action of the strap on the bar is to firmly seat the same in the bottom of the slots. The free edge of the latch is serrated orv roughened to permit an instrument being engaged therewith for prying the same from operative position, while the inner or pivoted end of the latch is provided with a square or straight edge 11.

The side wallsQ are provided with reg istering notches or seats 12, one wall of each having a shoulder 13. The free end of the wrist strap may be formed into an adjustable loop 14, and is threaded between the cross bars 15 of the open frame 16 which constitutes the hook part of the clasp. This hook part has downturned edge flanges 17 that may fit between the side walls 2 in a frictional manner, and from the lower edge of each flange is stamped an out-turned lug 18. These lugs are designed to fit in the seats 12, being forced past the shoulders 13 which hold the hook part firmly positioned between the side walls. When the hook part is operatively disposed, the forward edge thereof is abutted against the straight back 11 of the latch for holding the latter against accidental or unauthorizedopening.

In use, the fixed loop of the strap is passed over the bar 8 and the latter is then secured in position by the latch 5. The hook part of the buckle clasp is adjusted to fit the strap to the wrist and is then pressed be tween the side walls 2 until the locking lugs 18 snap past the looking or retaining shoulders 13 in which position the hook part abuts the latch and thereby serves in a dual capacity.

Both parts of the clasp may be stamped from sheet material in a practical and simple operation. Each end of the strap may readily be removed and when they are anchored to the clasp parts they are firmly held, said parts having a particular and st ficient interlocking cooperation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a buckle clasp, a fiat body part having upturned side walls formed with opposing seats, one wall of each seat having a locking shoulder, one end of the body being cut away between the side walls and having parts adjacent the latter turned upwardly alongside the same to form a U- shaped guide on one side of the body and a reinforced ear on the opposite side thereof, a cross bar having one end loosely and permanently secured to the ear, the sides of the U-guide having registering slots for receiving the free end of the bar, a latch pivoted for swinging into the guide over the bar for holding the latter operative, and a hook part adapted to be positioned between the side walls of the body in abutting relation to the latch forlocking the latter closed, said hook part having outwardly extending lugs engageable in the side wall seats beneath the locking shoulders.

In a buckle clasp, a body having side walls, spaced ears provided on one end of the body, one ear having an open slot, at cross bar supported by the other ear and removably engaging in the slot of the first ear, means for retaining the bar in the slot of the ear, and a hook part engageable with the body walls and with the aforesaid means for locking the latter operative.

3. In a buckle clasp, a body having spaced ears one of which is of U-section and having its sides provided with registering slots, a bar secured at one end to the other ear for movement into the slots of the first ear, a latch pivoted between the sides of the U- shaped ear for swinging over the bar and provided with a seat receiving the bar, the outer free end of the latch being formed for engagement by an instrument in opening the same, and a hook part detachably engaging the body in abutting relation to the latch for holding the latter operative.

4-. In a buckle clasp, a body, a strap anchoring member detachably secured thereto, and a hook part engageable with the body and with the member to hold the latter operative.

5. In a buckle clasp, a body, means for removably securing one end of a strap to the same, and other means detachably securing the other end of the strap to the body and locking the first means operative.

6. In a buckle clasp, a body having side walls one of which is formed with an open slot, a bar secured in the opposite wall for movement into the slot, a latch pivoted to the body for engaging over the bar and holding the same in the slot, and means for holding the latch operative.

7 In a buckle clasp, a body having side walls one of which is formed with an open slot, a bar carried by the other wall for movement into the slot of the first wall, a latch pivoted to the first side wall for engaging over the bar and holding it in the slot, and means removably interposed between the side walls in looking relation with the latch for holding the latter operative.
