PUZZLE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 6, 1917.
Application led December 29, 1916. Serial No. 139,574.
To all/whom z' may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. MEREDITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Anthony, in the county of Fremont and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Puzzles, of which the following is a specication.
This invention is a puzzle to aiford amusement and interest and which is also adapted for use as an advertising device.
The invention consists 'in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a puzzle constructed and arranged in accordance with this invention.
Figs. 2 and 3 are similar views of the same showing the parts in different positions and illustrating the manner in which the loop string is released from the member which is provided with the eye. 1
The puzzle consists essentially of a mem-V ber l having an eye 2; a cord B'havinga loop 4, and a member 5 attached to the cord.
The member l may be of any suitable construction and is here shown as a rod of suitable length. The member 5 may also be of any suitable construction but is preferably a disk, star, medallion, shield or the like and in practice may be inscribed with advertising matter.
Normally the loop of the cord is passed through the eye of the member l and the other end of the cord is passed through the shown in Fig. l and then passing the loop over the outer end of the rod l as shown'in Fig. 2 and thus enabling the cord together with its loop to be drawnv out entirely from and through the eye 2 as will be understood.
To rearrange the puzzle the loop is first passed through the eye then end of rod is passed through the loop and loop drawn up# ward and around the rod to the eye andv is then passed over the eye, thus forming a bight which connects the cord to the eye.
While I have herein shown and described the preferred form of my invention I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
A puzzle comprising a rod having an eye at one end, a cord of greater length than the rod and having a loop `at one end arranged to be passed through and slipped over the eye, and a member of a width greater than the ydiameter of the eye and at-v tached to the other end of the'cord.
