To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUY R. LAnrrAN, a citizen of the United States, resldlng at El Reno, in the county of Canadlan and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements 'in Sparkdlug Protectors, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to spark plug protectors, the object in view being to prov1de a spark plug protecting device which may be readily applied to any spark plug whether applied to or detached from a cyllnder and which when in its proper position Wlll protect the spark plug from being struck by flying or falling objects, which will also prevent water from reachin the spark plug and causing a short circuit andwhich will also'protect and hold a sufiicient portion of the circuit wire leading to the plug prevent said wire from sagging and causing the extremity thereof to become loose or detached from the binding post thereof.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, herein described, illustrated and claimed.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the protec- The protector contemplated in this invention, in the referred embodiment-thereof is formed of slieet metal in a single piece, the metal being of any suitable thickness or gage. The metal blank is so shaped and out that when folded or rolled into its final shape, the protector comprises a vertical arm or leg 1, and a substantially horizontal arm or. leg 2 which is smaller in cross section than the arm or leg l-and preferably made tapering from its point of junction from the arm 1 to the extremity of the arm 2, both arms being tubular in cross section'but being split longitudinally as indicated at 3 and 4.

The vertical arm of the protector is pro vided adjacent to the lower extremity there of with substantially parallel projecting ears or lugs 6, one of which has its marginal portions turned outwardly to provide flanges 7 extending at right angles to each other to embrace a nut 8 which is held by the flanges and prevented from turning. If desired the nut 8 may be soldered or otherwise permanently fastened to said flanges. A clamping both of theears or lugs and through said nut so that by tightening said screw, the lower marginalportion of the vertical leg of the device is clamped securely around the plug and in this way the device as a whole is positioned upon the plug and securely held in fixed re-. lation thereto.
In like manner the extremity of the horizontal or overhanging arm or leg of the protector is formed ears or lugs 10 one of which is marginally bent to provide flanges 11 to embrace a nut 12 and prevent the latter from turning. This nut like the one at the face of the upright 7 portion of the protector may be soldered or otherwlse permanently fastened in place. A
clamping screw 1.3 is inserted through the with substantlally parallel ears or lugs at the extremity of the overhanging arm for the purpose of contracting the extremity of said arm around an insulating Washer or bushing 14 inserted in the end of said overhangin arm and havin an opening through which the current wire 15 passes, said wire being connected by a termithe plug in the usual way.

The combination with a spark plug, a feed wire leading thereto, of a protector constructed to cover the upper portion of the plug and the adjacent portion of the feed wire, said protector embodying two tubular arms extendin at an angle to each other and split longitudinally, and means on one. of said arms for clamping the same around 'wire, said protector embodying two tubular arms extending at an angle to each other and split longitudinally, means on one of saidarms for clamping the same around a spark plug, an insulating bushing in the other arm of the. protector through which the lead wire passes, and means carried by the last named arm for clamping said bushin in place.
