IMPROVEMENT IN ClGAR-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,545, dated March 12, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Cigar-Holders, invented by JOHN K. CHASE, of the city of Neur York, in the State of New York.
This cigar-holder, as shown by the drawing hereof, is composed of a shell, af, and Wire b, coiled spirally. The shell may have a round or oval end for the mouth and be cone-shaped. The wire may have a round base, as shown by the end View, Fig. 4, or be compressed or lattened, asv shown by Fig. 5. The shell Will be made of paper or cloth of suitable thickness, cut out from the sheet by properly-shaped cutters, the edges or lappings being secured by` paste or cement, and saturated with a War1nmixture of White Wax, resin, and parafne, the proportions of each ingredient being adjusted so as to give to the shell a degree of firmness. This cigar-holder is attached, as shown by Fig. l, by simply'pressing the tapering end of the cigar c against the point of the Wire and forcing t-he holder up to and around the end of the cigar. The base ofthe Wire b may be secured to the holder by some cementing material, though ordinary pressure will generally be suiiicient to keep it in place. The saturating material can be colored and perfumed to such degree as may be desirable. The holder can be attached to the cigar and be thus boxed and sold ready for use, or the holders can be furnished to dealers and be sold separately, as may be preferred.
The advantages of this cigar-holder: First, the cigar can be entirely consumed, the cost of smoking being, therefore, comparatively less; second, the cigar will draW more freely and hold fire longer; third, the end Will not be liable to be broken and crumble and stain the mouth; fourth, the teeth Will not be liable t0 injury from heat; fifth, the smoker can talk With ease and spit less than, when4 smoking a cigar Without a holder, or with a holder made of solid material.
` What I claim isl. A shell for a cigar-holder made of paper or thin material and saturated with the mixture of white Wax, resin,` and parafiine, as herein recited.
2. In combination With the shell of a. cigarholder, I claim the Wire b, constructed and operated as described.
