IMPROVEMENT IN STEP-LADDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,5l8, dated March 1'2, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, ORANGE M. SWEET, of Forestville, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Step- Ladders, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is an improvement in the class of step -ladders which are provided with a hinged and adjustable standard or leg; and it consists in the arrangement of an adjustablev has its side edges bent inward to clasp and fit in grooves in the standard A, as shown. Thus the slide may be adjusted vertically, corresponding to the inclination or position of the standard with reference to the main portion of 'the ladder, and may be secured at any point by means of the clamp-screw D, which passes through the slide, as shown.
By this construction the ladder is not liable to give way, under any ordinary conditions, by reason of the insecurity of the standard, as is the case with others of its class.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
