Description

Patented May 13. 1873.

AM. moro-umosmrmc ca IV. 16(0SBORNE5PROCESS) CHARLES GAMMEL, OF UTIOA, NEW YORK.
IMPRQVEMENT IN CURTAIN-CORD FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,878, dated May 13,1873; application filed 1 March 29, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES GAMMEL, of Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Shade-Cord Pulley, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved cord-pulley. Fig. 2 is a detail cross-section of the same taken through the line m 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved pulley for the cords of windowshade rollers, which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, strong, durable, not liable to get out of order, and inexpensive in manufacture. The invention consists in the plate, the screw-rod, the pulley, and the hand-nut, constructed and arranged to operate in connection with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a plate, which is designed to be secured to the window-casing, and which is cast with a socket or hollow rib to receive the rod B. The upper end or head of the rod Bis slotted to receive the pulley G, around which is passed the endless cord by which the shade is raised and lowered. The rod B is made considerably longer than the length of the plate A, and has a hand-nut, D, screwed upon its lower end, so that by simply turning the nut D on or off the tension of the shade cord may be adjusted as required. In the side of the rod B is formed a groove, into which is inserted a pin, E. This pin is inserted preferably from the inner side of the plate A, so as to be entirely out of sight. For convenience in doing this the plate A may be cast with a cavity upon its inner side, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The slotted screw-rod B, having nut D and pulley 0, combined with pin E and socketplate A, as and for the purpose described.
CHARLES GAMMEL.
