HINGE CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 23, 1917.
Application filed April 10, 1917. SerialNo. 161,000.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. COLLINS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Holyoke, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hinge Constructions, especially designed and adapted for closet-bowl covers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide a construction wherein the cover may be raised and prevented from being turned back beyond a predetermined position, thus avoiding the objectionable striking of the cover against anything that may be back of it and insuring the maintaining of the cover in the desired position without employing any stop other than that provided by the hinge itself. My object is also to provide a construction which shall be simple and inexpensive.
In the accompanying drawing in which like letters of reference indicate like parts- Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of the hinge showing its position in full lines when the cover is opened or in raised position, and in dotted lines when the cover is closed.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale.
The construction will be readily understood on reference to the drawings wherein is shown two supporting members a adapted to be attached to the bowl, and a cross rod or member Z) between them, a plate 0 adapted to be attached to the cover and having the extensions (Z integral therewith, provided with openings through which the rod Z2 extends and having extensions 0 projecting rearwardly and laterally as shown at f, the lateral extensions f being adapted to impinge against the shank portions of the construction comprising but few parts,
easily manufactured and easily assembled provides a construction serving the purpose for which it is designed and a device which can be manufactured at small expense.
Having therefore described my invention what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hinge construction of the class referred to comprising uprights a, cross rod b, plate 0, and members d integral therewith, provided with openings for the rod 72 and extended rearwardly and laterally and adapted to strike against the uprights a when turned to the open position.
2. A hinge construction for closet seats and covers comprising supporting members, a member adapted to be secured to a seat or cover and having rearward extensions hingedly connected with the supporting members and having the body portions of said rearward extensions extended rearwardly beyond the hinge and laterally whereby said rearward lateral extensions will engage the supporting member and limit the hinge movement in one direction.
3. In a hinge construction of the class referred to, suitable supporting members as a;
a part 0 having rearwardly and laterally ex tended members with pivotal openings there through, whereby they may be pivotally connected with the members a and having'lateral extensions as 7 adapted to strike against a portion of the part a; and prevent further movement of the cover, substantially as shown.
GEORGE W. COLLINS.
