specification of Letters Patent. 7 'Patented Oct. 16, 1917.
Application filed-Janiiary 15, 1917. Serial No. 142,374.
To (1.? whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PASQUALE FINA, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shampoo Pans or Trays, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in shampoo apparatus, and more particularly to a pan or tray adapted for securing to a chair back to receive the water used in the shampooing of the scalp and townvey the same to a basin, stand or other suitable drain. To provide an apparatus'which is capable of adjustment to any angle relatively to its support and is also capable of extension a given distance to connect with basins or drains positioned or located a distance therefrom.
In shampooing as at present done the patron leans forwardly over a bowl, basin, or other suita le receptacle and the attend ant applies the materials and rinse water to the base of the scalp, it passing downwardly over the face and often into the eyes before draining into the receptacle, and it is these objections that the present invention is designed to overcome.
My invention overcomes the necessity of the patron leaving the chair when it is desired to rinse the scalp after a treatment or shampoo, enables the patron to assume an easy reclining position while receiving a treatment, shampoo or rinse and in which position the shampoo or rinse passes from the back of the head into the pan or tray from which it is conveyed to any suitable receptacle, preferably a basin having a sewer connection. My invention is particularly adapted for use in barber shops where the chairs therein are in a fixed position relatively to the basins enabling the troughs to be extended to carry the rinse or shampoo drain to a suitable basin and when not in use to be stored in a small space.
lVith the above mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the scope a chair back.
or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
To more fully-comprehend the invention, reference is directed to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view'in plan of an embodiment of my invention, disclosing one of the troughs extended.
I Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation.
' Fig. 3 is an enlarged side view of the adjustable mounting.
Fig. l is an enlarged front view of the mountingdisclosed in F ig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2, illustrating the telescoping extensible troughs carried beneath the pan or tray.
Fig. 6 is a view in planof a pan or tray without the extensible features.
Fig. 7 is a'view in side elevation of the pan or tray illustrated in Fig. 6 attached to Referring more particularly to the several views of the drawings, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts, 1 indicates the base or bottom of a suitable tray or pan, preferably oblong in' shape and upwardly bent at its peripheral edges as at 2,-thebent portion being surrounded by a tubular beaded edge 2. i The pan is provided at one end with an inwardly curved-head rest or depression 3 in which is adapted to rest the back of the neck of the patron, the portions A at either side thereof preventing the splashing or overflowing of the water from the upper end of the pan. At the opposite or lower end the pan is provided with the extension or discharge lip B, the outer end of which is preferably inwardly curved, as at 4, and at the opposite ends of which curvature the upstanding edge or flange 2 terminates. Oppositely disposed parallel spaced supporting guides 5 extend longitudinally of the under face of the pan or tray bottom 1 from a point adjacent the ends of the curved lip end 4. Slidably mounted in the guides are the nested troughs 6 and 7 having the curved tubular edges 8. The edges 8 of the trough 6 slide in the guides 5 and the edges 8 of the trough 7 are received and slide with the tubular portions of the edges 8 of trough 6. The troughs may be extended to direct the water from the tray or pan to any suitable place of deposit, and when the tray is not in use may be telescoped and positioned beneath the underside of the tray enabling the same to be stored in a small space. Extending transversely otthe underside of the tray bottom is a suitablycurved mounting 9, the opposite ends of which are secured in any suitable manner to the underside of the tray bottom adjacent the outer edges of the guides 5. lhe mounting is provided with a cupped recess 10 in which is received a portion of the member 11 of a ball joint which is carried in the socket member 12 secured to'the mounting 9. The socket carries a threaded locking member 13 which passes therethrough and acts on the other member 14; of the ball joint. Elie member 13 is formed with a cut out 15 in which is received the portion 16 of a support C, the portion 17 of which is adapted for detachable securing to the chair back 18. A suitable rest or protecting strip 19 is movably secured to the upturned beaded edge 2 of the depression 3 and is retained in position by the clips 20.
In Figs. 6 and 7 I have illustrated a pan or tray member not provided with the telescoping trough members and adapted for use when the chair to which the same is to be attached is positioned adjacent to a bowl orreceptacle and where the troughs are not required.
I have provided a shampoo pan or tray which is capable of attachment to a chair back, one which is provided with an extensible trough portion carried beneath the same and which enables the fluid received in the pan or tray to be drained to any suitable point, and one which is provided with a universally movable supporting joint which enables the pan or tray to be adjusted to the required angle relatively to the chair back and basin to properly position the mas es? lipped or trough end thereof to the drain receptacle.
Having thus described my invention what 1 claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. A shamp'ooing apparatus comprising a pan or tray having an upstanding circumt'erential edge and provided at one end with a curved depression and at its opposite end with an outlet lip, guide rails carried on the underside of said pan or tray and terminating at apoint beneath the edge of said lip, a plurality of telescoping troughs carried by said guide rails and capable of extension beyond the end of the same, and a universal oint connection carried by said tray for attachment to a suitable support.
2. A shampooing apparatus comprising a pan or tray having an upstanding circumferential edge and provided at one endwith a curved depression and at its opposite end with an outlet lip, a pair of parallel spaced guide rails carried on the underside of said pan or tray and terminating at one end at a point beneath the edge of said lip, a plurality of telescoping nested troughs carried beneath said pan or tray, each of said troughs being provided with a beaded edge and the bead of the outer trough sliding in the bead of the inner trough and the bead of the inner trough sliding in said guides, and a universal joint connection carried by the underside of said tray for attachment to a suitable support. a
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
