Application filed May 29, 1916. Serial No. 100,537.
` To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES. R. ALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at l/Vaco, in the county of McLennan and State of Texas, have invented certain useful 1mprovements in Curtain and Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in curtain and shade brackets, one object of the invention being the provision of a device of this character which is readily secured to the window frame without marring the same and which is provided with adjustable means for attaching the shade and also for attaching the curtain pole, whereby from a single fixture the window shade and curtain may be suspended.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, and which is thoroughly efficient and practical in use.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan View showing the window equipped with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail plan view of one of the xtures. per se.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 11 is a View similar to Fig. 2 of the opposite member.
' Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are detail views of various parts.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals 10 and 11 designate the two members, each of which is identical and comprises the substantially Ushaped supporting member 12 having the eye 13 formed at the connecting portion thereof, there being disposed for sliding movement upon the same the two window frame engaging members 14C and 15.
Each'one of these members is made from a single strand of wire and is bent to provide the central loop 16 for receiving the longitudinally disposed rod 17 which in turn is also mounted in the eye 13. The loops 18 which are provided upon the respective members 111 and 15 slidably engage the long terminals of the U-shaped member and have the inwardly projecting parallel hooked terminals 19 for engagement with the window frame 20.
The rod 17 is provided with the screw threaded end 21 for the reception of the thumb nut 22, which provides a means for adjusting the member 15 relative to the member 14, and to cause it to clamp the hooked terminals astride of the window frame to hold the present fixture in place thereon.
Mounted for sliding movement upon the long terminals of the Ll-shaped member are the sleeves 23 of the curtain pole bracket 24, while also mounted for sliding movement upon said long' terminals fare lthe sleeves 25 of the plate 26 which is provided with the` respective shade brackets 27 or 28.
Carried by the plate 26 is a hooked clamping member which is adapted to embrace the rod 17, and by means of the thumb nut 29 be gripped thereon to lock the shade bracket from longitudinal movement.
1t will be noted that the threaded rods 17 provide means for holding the clamping elements upon the body member 12, and also provide means for clamping the elements against the opposite sides of the window casing.
The formation of the body members 12 from lengths of wire which are bent substantially U-shaped, provide relatively light body members having `opposed substantially parallel sides forming run-ways for the clamping elementsand also for the curtain pole and shade supporting brackets.
What 1 claim as new is In a device of the kind described comprising a U-shaped member, said member having two long parallel arms and a cross rod, a diagonally disposed central eye formed on said cross rod,`a rod of substantial length to the parallel arms of said U-shaped member passed through said di agonally disposed eye and having a head adapted to engage the same, a pair of members each similar in formand constructed of wire, each of said members consisting of an arm having terminal eyes through which the arms of said member extend and an intermediate eye disposed diagonally of the arm through which said rod extends, the
of said last-named members When the latter engages the stile in order to draw the head of the rod zigainst the intermediate eye of 10 said irst-named member.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature.
outer end of said rod being screw-threaded, hooked terminals carried by the opposite ends of each member and adapted to engage opposite Sides of one stile of :L Window frame and a jam nut threadediy engaging the threaded portion of said rod and adapted to bear against the intermediate eye of one CHARLES R. WALKER.
