Preferably two such guide-line sheets are used.. Aceording to our invention', we prefento` forin the `gu`ide sheets -B' and Cl or f C5) of blotting paper. By this means we are not only enabled"to'fdispense w'ith'the use of a separate l'blottingfsheet, Vbut avoid 'any special manipulation off'the'pa'p ei"or blotting 'in its folded -position,or, lif the `third page 76 paratory to `folding the combined guide sheet and paper into the position of Fig. Ll. When the tablet is used without folding the paper the underside of the sheet B may be,uti lized for blotting purposes; it is especially adapted for this purpose, since its under side is not ruled. A separate blotting sheet 'a may howeverl be provided as shown in-Fig. 1 .wherein it is attached to the underside of. the cover.` It will also be noted that one or more of the sheets B, C or C may be un ruled and used only as a blotter. It Will also be observed that anyy design may be placed upon the guide sheets for drawing or other purposes. It is also obvious that many modications may be made in the constructions shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention. For instance, the guide-sheet B may be hinged (in a manner hereinafter described for instance) to a side of the tablet instead of at its lower edge. Guide sheets may also be used of different sizes than those indicated.

In Fig. 9 we have shown a further modification of our invention in which the half length guide sheets C2, instead of being hinged to the tablet is hinged to the guide sheet B, which latter is itself hinged to the lower edge of the tablet. In use the guide sheet B is inserted beneath the letter sheet, and the latter folded to half size as in the other constructions shown, With the guide sheet C2 between its leaves. Pages two and three are written upon in the same manner as with the other constructions and page four is arranged in position by severing the letter sheet from the tablet and slipping it over the guide sheet C2.

In Fig. 10 We have shown our improved guide sheet detached, such sheet being indicated by the reference letter B. The pro* vision of a. guide sheet or combined guide sheet and blotter having guide lines arranged both longitudinally and transversely is of considerable importance either in tablets or in connection with loose sheets. By its use the writer can be guided when Writing upon the paper in either direction. Moreover, such guide sheet can be furnished practically as cheaply as a sheet having lines extending in but one direction, since as the lines may be on one side of the sheet only, a single printing operation will suffice for the production of the lines.

In Fig. 11, we have illustrated a detached guide sheet, which may be of blotting paper if preferred and which has hinged to one of its sides the half length guide sheet C2. Such combined guide sheets may be sold either in tablets, loose paper or the like or separately therefrom. It is susceptible of the same use as the combined guide sheets shown in Fig. 9.

In Fig. 12, we have shown still another modification in which the half length guide sheet is omitted, the fulllength guide sheet B2 being creased at its middle and its upper half being attached to the back board of the tablet as shown. The sheet B2 is preferably ruled longitudinally on its back and longitudinally and transversely on its front as shown. In the use of this construction the guide sheet B2 s placed over the top sheet of the tablet and the letter is folded as before. This brings page one of the letter sheet in position for use. After page one is written upon the letter sheet is raised and the guide sheet slipped beneath it, whereby pages two and three are brought into position for use. The guide sheet and letter sheet are then moved about the hinge of the former, thereby detaching the letter sheet from the tablet, and the letter sheet is then arranged with its fourth pageabove the lower half of the guide sheet B2, which in this position is folded. A single guide sheet in this construction takes the place of the combined guide sheets of the other constructions shown.

In 13, we have shown a papeterie comprising an appropriate box or package containing a plurality of envelops and a tablet constructed according to our invention, the tablet being of such size that itsletter sheets when folded it such envelops. In combination with these features are two guide sheets which are preferably blotters, one a half length sheet and the other a full length sheet ruled transversely and longitudinally.

While we have shown and described several embodiments of our invention, such illustration and description are not to be understood as defining the limits thereof, as variations and modifications may be made therein Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What We claim is 1. A tablet having a plurality of sheets of paper and having a guide sheet having guiding provisions on a surface thereof, said guiding provisions being adapted to be visible through one of said sheets of paper, and said guide sheet being substantially half the length of said tablet, and means for hinging said guide sheet to said tablet.

2. A tablet having a plurality of sheets of paper and having a guide sheet having guiding provisions on a surface thereof, said guiding provisions belng adapted to be visible through one of said sheets of paper, and said guide sheet being substantially half the length of said tablet, and means for hingng said guide sheet to the binding edge of said tablet.

3. A tablet having a plurality of sheets of paper and having a guide sheet having guiding lines on both of its surfaces, said guiding provisions being adapted to be visible through one of said sheets of paper, and
