To all whom z't may concern:
Be it knownthat I, HENRI GALLET, a citizen of the 'Republic of France, residing at #36 Quai National, at Puteaux, Department of the Seine, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plug Contact-Makers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. v
.Plug contact-makers with contact studs grouped at their upper part and intended for the electrical ignition. of explosion "motors now in use exhibit the disadvantage of necessitating internal connections of eon-' siderable length, thus increasing the.difiicul-' angle, so as to obtain regularly timed ignilinsulation.
ties of casting an I'VEIHZIOII relates to, a contact The present i' make and break device 'or distributer that enables the lengthbf a part of the internal connections; to be considerably reduced by employing a rotary brush carrier comprising two or more brushes electrically conneeted and arranged at suitable angles apart. These brushes establish insuccession appropriate connections with two or more-series of contact studs ar anged in a suitable manner in th'e up per' p rt of the distributor.
-The accompanying drawing shows by way of example a constructional form in accordance with this invention, intended for the ignition of an eight-cylinder explosion motor. I
Figure 1 is a section through the longitudinal axis of the contact maker and of the rotary brush carrier.
Fig. 2 is an end view.
In Fig. 1, a/represents the fixed casing of the contact maker, made of special insulating material in which a cylindrical hollowis formed. The internal peripheral surface of the casing is provided with two sets of contact studs, imbedded in the insulating material, located in two different planes 0 and cl, and distributed regularly over the upper half inner portion of the cylindrical casing 72. J j
Fig. 2 shows that the PI'OJGCUOH of the four contact studs of the first row a on a plane normal to the axis of the contact PLUG CONTACT-MAKER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 25, 191 '1. Application filed December 26, 1916. Serial No. 138,949.
maker is: merged in the projection of the half of the ignition cycle being traversed by the brush f brush f The device and the second half by the forming the subject matter of the present invention may be advanta I geous ly extended to all multi-cyl'inder .motors, 1f the number of cylinders is equal to or greater than four.
Of course a smaller number of contactstuds may be made use of in eacli'set anda larger number of sets, and of brushes displaced from one another through a suitable tion in the various cylinders.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my-said invention and in what manner the. same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. A contact make and break device comprising a hollow casing, a plurality of contact studs disposed in the upper part of the casing in sets, the members of each set being spaced apart predetermined distances, a rotary member in said casing having at least two brushes electrically connected together and adapted, upon the movement of the r tary member, to successively engage said contact'studs.
2. A contact make and break device comtact studs disposed in the upper part of the casing in sets, the members of each set being spaced apart predetermined distances, a ro-- tary member in said casing having brushes arranged onthe same in such manner thatduring the movement of the rotary member one brush will successively engage the members of one set of, contacts and another brush will subsequently successively engage the members of another set of contacts.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. p
