Description

Patented Mar. 11, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT UFFICE DISTRIBUTOR HEAD AND CONDUCTOR FOR 2 Claims.
This invention relates to distributors for internal combustionengines and particularly to an improved distributor head and set oi' conductorcarrying tubes, an object being to provide an improved construction of a distributor head wherein the head and coverings or tubes of the conductors are integral or substantially integral.
Another object oi' the invention is to provide a head for a distributor to be used with internal combustion engines wherein the wires leading to and from the head are provided with rubber or other insulating covering integral with the distributor head.
In the accompanying drawing- Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view through a distributor head and conductor structures disclosing an embodiment oi' the invention, the section being taken approximately on the line i-I of Fig. 2,'
20 Fig. 2 is a sectional view through Fig. l approximately on the line 2 2. I
In internal combustion engines, particularly engines, a distributor is provided corrosive action followed by arcing at the point 35 where the removable conductor is inserted into the wire receptacle oi' the head. Where such 5 tegrally formed unit.
Ae shown in Fig. 1, indicates the distribusome desired plastic they may be formed but when being vuluntil it is hard vulcanized until they are resilient. The tube 3 accommodates the lead-ln wire l extending from the spark coil while the various tubes2 accommodate the various lead-out wires 5. 'I'he lead-out wires at their free ends may be provided with any suitable form oi contacts to be removably connected to the respective spark plugs of the engine. In the structures shown in Figs. l and 2, there are provided six lead-out wires for a, six-cylinder engine but it Will be evident that more or less could be providedlwithout departing from the spirit of the invention. From Fig. 1 it will be seen that the wires 4 and 5 extend through their respective tubes and into the upper part of the head i. Wire 4 is connected with a metal block, contact or segment 8 embedded in the head l and with a contact member l which ;re ceives the center contact of the distributor. The various wires 6 are welded or otherwise rigidly secured to metal blocks, contacts or segments 8 having contact surfaces 9 of the usual kind found in distributing heads now in com body, and a metal contact for each of said wires embedded in said hard rubber head and extending inwardly therefrom.
2. A distributor head of the character described including a body formed of hard plastic material and tubes integral with the body formed rehaving a portion theresilient, a contact member
