0. P. IVIORRISONLv SWITCH POINT HOLDDOWN.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE I, 19|?.

13) fieles-e F C STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR Il?. MORRISON, OF BLOOMBURG, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO VERNON D. GLASS, OF BLOOIVIBURG, TEXAS.
SWITCH-POINT HOLDDOWN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 18, 1917.
Application filed J' une 1, 1917. Serial No. 172,252.
of Texas, have invented a new and useful Switch-Point Holddown, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a switch point hold-down intended to retain the point of a switch at its proper level, and the objects of the invention are, lirst to provide a switch point hold-down which will be retained in a certain position with respect to the main rail; second, to provide a holddown which will be out of the way and not liable to injury; third, to provide a holddown which may be easily installed and removed; fourth, to provide a simple and eiiicient hold-down.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made with# in the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a side elevation of a hold-down constructed in accordance with my invention, a switch rail, to which the device is shown applied being in cross section.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device attached to a switch.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing by numerals:
A main rail is indicated at l and a switch rail associated therewith at 2. These railsv are mounted on the usual slide plate 3 which, in turn, rests on the ties, not shown. A brace 4 may be provided for the rail l and held in place by the upturned edge 5 of plate 3 and by the usual spikes, holes being provided for their reception.
The hold down consists of two similar clamping plates 7 from a point near the adjacent edges of which rise the flange 8 which are spaced apart to dene a channel in which is seated one end of a horizontally arranged arm 9 formed with an upturned end 10. The arm 9 extends through an opening 11 formed in the web of theswitch rail point, and its upturned end 10 has its upper end resting under the ball of the main rail l. The arm 9 is secured in the channel of the clamping plates by a bolt 12 or otherwise. The clamping plates may be secured in place by screw bolts which pass through the apertures 13.
As will be seen the switch rail point is free to swing along the portion 9 of the hold down while it is retained at a proper level. It is also apparent that this device can be readily installed and removed without necessitating any extensive changes in the usual equipment.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A switch point hold down, comprising a supporting plate, a switch point engaging arm detachably secured to the plate, and an upturned end on the arm adapted to conp tact the main rail to hold the arm in place.
2. A switch point hold-down, comprising a supporting plate, a switch point engaging arm extending from the plate, and an upturned end on the arm adapted to engage the ball of a main rail. i
3. A switch point hold down, comprising clamping plates, a switch point engaging ele-l ment de tachably secured to the plates, and means interposed between the element and a main rail for retaining the engaging element in place.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
OSCAR P. MORRISON.
