HAIR-CURLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 18,, 1917'.
Application filed December 1, 1916. Serial No. 134,409.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MABEL Bm'rnrcn STEVENSON, of the city of Guelph, in the county of Wellington, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Curlers, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hair curlers and the object of the invention is to devise a curler, which will not break the hair or otherwise afiect it detrimentally,
which will be sanitary, easily adapted to produce a wave of any width desired and which will be comfortable to the wearer at all times and it consists essentially of a rectangular piece of fabric having longitudinal extensions extending from the center of each end edge, the rectangular portion being adapted to fold longitudinally to form the body of a plurality of thicknesses of the desired width as hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specification.
Figure 1, is a plan view of the blank forming my hair curler.
Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the blank shown in Fig. 1 folded ready for use.
Fig. 3, is a similar view to Fig. 1 showing the hair wound thereon and ready to be secured in position to form a wave.
Fig. 4, is a perspective view of my curler completely folded with the hair wound thereonand fastened to secure the hair in the wound position:
Fig. 5, is a cross sectional view through the center portion of Fig. 3.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 indicates a rectangular portion which is preferably oblong and from theend edge of which extend longitudinal extensions 2 and. 3 of any desired length. The inner ends of the extensions 2 and 3 may be preferably broadened or flared out into sub-- stantially triangular format 2 and 3", such broadened portion being formed integral with the body portion 1.
When it is desired to curl the hair the body portion 1 1s folded upon the longitudinal lines 4, 5, 6. and 7 so as to form the body 8 as indicated particularly in Fig. 2.
Although I have described my curler as folded upon the lines 4, 5, 6 and 7 it may.
be folded on any other parallel and longitudinal lines desired so as to form the body 8 of any desired width thereby regulating the length of the wave produced in the hair. Having folded my curler in the form shown in Fig. 2 the hair is then wound thereon as shown in Fig. 3 in the usual manner. The longitudinal extensions 2 and 3 are then head of the wearer particularly when the wearer is in a lying position.
My form of hair curler having no metal or rubber parts and formed completely of washable fabric may be easily cleansed whenever desired and at'the same time provides a curler which will have no detrimental eflect upon the hair such as breaking it and which will have no part with which the' hair may become entangled, and which may be easily adapted for forming a wave of any desired width, and which will be cheap to manufacture.
What I claim as my invention is:
A new article'of manufacture comprising an integral hair curler .blank having a longitudinal strip portion, portions on each side of the middle thereof of the shape of an isosceles trapezoid, and further portions surmounting the trapezoidal portions rectangular in shape, said portions adapted to be foldedv along the lines of jointure with the adjacent portions whereby a body is formed about which hair may be wound, the ends of the strip portion adapted to be tied together over the hair on the curler body to maintain it in place.
