APPLICATlON FILED APR. l4.li9l6.
` Patented Sept. 4. 1917'.
THO'MAS A. HILLIARD- 0F SUX CITY, IOW'A.
Specification of Letters Patent.
POCKET-RECEPTACLE FOR, LIGHTED OIGRS.
Patented sept. 4, 1ere.
Application flied April 14, 1916. Serial No. 91,218.
To all whom 'it may concern."
Be it known that I, TnoMAs A. Hummm), a citizen vof the 'United States, and a, resident of Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Receptacles for Lighted Cigars, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to receptacles for lighted oiga L The invention has for its primary lobject the production of an improved receptacle for lighted cigars, that obviates the necessity of destroying a freshly lighted cigar upon enteringr a publi'c building or street car or I upon other occasions when smoking is prohibited. I
Another object of the invention is the production of an improved lighted cigarholder to be carried, without inconvenience in the vest pocket, and into which a lighted cigar may be .readily inserted.
Still another object of the invention is the production of an improved. lighted cigar holder, inexpensive in manufacture and thoroughly eiiieient in use.
With t ese and other objects in view, the invention will ,he fully understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and inwhich like characters of reference indicate corresponding partspthroughout the several yiews, of which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a. lighted cigar holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section ofthe same, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front elevation with a cigar inclosed therein as when in use.
Referring now to the illustrations, 4 and 5 are front and rear Walls respectively, of leather, paper, fabric vor other suitable ma.- terial, and having their side and/bottoni edges secured together to form a pocket o'r pouch. l
The walls are lined with asbestos or other suitable flexible, fireproof material, 6. The upper ends of the rear Wall and its lining. extend adistan above the companion wall and the upper portion of the rearwall folds forwardly and downwardly over the rear wall lining and is glued or otherwise secured to the latter, es at 7. The upper edge convenient removal of ofthe front wall is preferably curved downwardly from the side edges, as at 8, to permit a cigar. The upper edge of the front wall is folded rearwardly and downwardly over its lining and is glued or otherwise secured thereto, aS at 9.
The cigar is introduced into the holder, lighted end first, the receptacle being read ily opened to receive the cigarby pressing the side edges of the ease toward each other. The upper end of the rear wall serves as a shield for preventing the butt of the cigar from stainingmhe wearing apparel. It will be observed that the walls of the 'receptacle -impnge and hold the cigar' in any position it is therein placed.
Obviously, the cigar may be removed from the receptacle, without removing the receptacle from the pocket, end ashes which may accumulate in the receptacle may he conveniently dumped.
'Normally the walls of the device lie Hat against each other, making the device very convenient and not the least clumsy in the pocket.
lla ving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A lighted cigar-holder. comprising a pouch including front and. rear Walls of fiexible material, having their side and het tom edges `ioined, the upper edge of the rear wall being extended upwardly' a distance above the front wall, and asbestos linings for 2. A lighted cigar-holder, comprising a pouch, including .ii'oi'it and rear walls of flexible material.. and having their side and ybottom edges joined, the upperend of the tom of the receptacle, und adapted to non t Y innlly lie flut. each against the other.
In te mony whereof I havehereunto eet my hand.
THOMAS A. Lummen.
