Specification of Letters Patent.
ratenteasepr. a, mir.
Application' filed October 11, 1916. Serial No. 124,937.
T0 all.' whom '515 may concern:
Be it known that I, STANISLAW COZEL, a subject of the Czar of Russia', and a resident of 1Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nested Lunch-Containers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lunch boxes, particularly to types in which a plurality of the boxes are contained and conveyed within a special holder.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a device in which a plurality of boxes or containers may be securely held so as to occupy but a minimum of space and be readily transported between the embracingarms of a holder suited to their exterior.
Another object is to provide means, at the base of the column of boxes, for heating the same, the heat being disseminated upward so as to affect all of the containers in the column, and finally, to provide such a device in forms relatively low in cost to manufacture, which present a neat and attractive appearance, and which are especially applicable for use where a number of workmen are employed.
These and other allied objects are attained by the novel design, construction, and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a plurality of independent containers arranged within a holder common to all.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken` substantially on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.v
Fig. 3 is a partial vertical sectional view, taken on lines 3--3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4f is a perspective fragmental view looking from the interior of the container, taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 3.
The device consists essentially in the provision of a plurality of circular metallic containers 10, each being provided with a cover 11, having a depending flange l2 adapted to be received neatly within the upstanding body l()` forming a tight fitting cap or cover therefor.
Each of these covers 11 have cut-out portions 14 oppositely disposed and suited to be engaged within the upright support plates 15, which comprise the side elements of the holder, and which `are joined together at the ltop by a rigid handle 16 shaped at the center 17 to suit the hand of the carrier.
This arrangement operates to hold the containers firmly engaged between the upright support plates and prevents them from revolving therein.
At the extreme lower end of the arms, a heating chamber 2O is provided, the same being removable from the upright support plates 15, or engaged rigidly therewith, through the bayonet joint lock comprised of the pins 22 engageable in slots 23 formed in the reversely applied cover 24, the pins being secured in the upright support plates l5 and walls of the vessel 20.
In order to produce the desired heat in the lower chamber, it may be filled with some generating medium, as unslaked lime,
so that when it is desired to heat the contents of the several separate containers stacked thereabove, a small quantity of water may be entered, slaking the lime and causing the same to give off sufficient heat to warm the lunch contained in the several vessels.
It is also possible to partially fill the lower chamber with charcoal, which, after having been ignited, burns freely for a considerable period, or the same may be filled with hot water or other elements adapted to contain and convey heat.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a device of the class described, the combination with a plurality of cylindrical metallic vessels, covers suited to each of said vessels, said covers having` a depending annular flange engaged within the vessels, a pair of. parallel disposed upright support plates adapted to embrace said vessels, means for holding said plates in operative position, and means combined with said covers engageable with said plates, whereby the vessels are prevented from displacement.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a plurality of' independ ent cylindrical vessels, covers for each of said vessels, a pair of upright support plates adapted to embrace all of the several vessels upon opposite sides thereof, means formed with said covers directly engaging the edges of said plates, a handle combined with said plates, and a heating means removably engaged with. ille lower end of said plates,
said heating means being adapted to transf init heat to the several Vessels thereabove.
3. In a device of the class described,` the combination with a pair of oppositely disposed, nprght support plates7 means for engaging said plates at their upper ends, said' engaging means being also used as a conveying means7 a heat conveying chamber removably engageable bet-Ween said uprio'ht 10 snppOl Plates at thelower ends thereo a plurality of cylindrical Vessels adapted to nest one above the other over said heating means, between said upright support plates and means engaged With said Vessels Whereby they are prevented from displacement.
lSigned at Vilmington, in thefcounty of New` Castle and State of Delaware, this 16th day yof September, 1916.
