DRAIN TILE TOOL.
APPLICATION man MAR, 21. 1917.

WILLIAM E. KEISTER, OF ESSEX, IOWA.
DRAIN-TILE TOOL.
.7 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLiAM E. Knisrnn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at.
Essex, in the county of Page and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Drain-Tile Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
. clear, and exact description of the invention,
.such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same. 7
This invention relates to drain tile tools, and more particular to a tool for carrying or handling drain tiles, so that the inconvenience of handling the drain tiles with the bare hands may be dispensed with.
An object of the invention is to provide'a drain tile tool that will support a plurality of drain tiles so that a number of tiles can be carried at the same time.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a tool having a plate carrying a number of supporting fingers to be inserted in the tiles, and a handle attached to the plate, whereby the tiles can'be coveniently carried.
A still. further object is the provision of means whereby the fingers can be adjusted toward or away from each other so that different sized tiles can be carried.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In which:
Figure l'illustrates a perspective view 01' the device.
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the device, and
Fig. 3 represents a front elevation of the device.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates generally the tool, which consists of a substantially flat elongated plate 2, having a longitudinally extending slot 3, which slidably receives the ends of the carrying rods 4. The carrying rods. 4 each having outstanding flanges 5 formed adjacent one end thereoi and are adapted to engage the inner surface of the plate 4 so as to limit the inward movement of the rods. The ends of the rods Specification of Letters Patent.
to the size of the tiles to be Patented Aug. 2i, 1917.
Application filed March 27, 1917. Serial No. 157,700.
v4 extend through the slot 3' and are threaded and receive the relatively elongated washers 6 and the nuts 7, which are adapted to hold the carrying rods 4 in any adjusted position.
Secured to the plate 2 intermediate the ends thereof by suitable fastening elements 8 is a handlesupport 9, having a relatively large leg 10 embracing one side of the plate and a relatively small leg 11 embracing the other side of the plate and through which one of the fastening elements 8 extends. A
squared handle socket'l2 is formed on the handle support 9 and is positioned above the plate 2 and projects outwardly therefrom in the direction of the carrying rods 4 and receives the squared portion 13 of the handle 14. The handle 14 is secured in position by means of a bolt 15 extending through the bore 16 in the handle and a registering aperture in the handle socket 1'2 and the bolt is held in position by having its ends upset as at 17. The handle extends rearwardly from the handle support in the direction of and parallel with the carrying rods.
A central carrying rod 18 is non-adjustably carried by the plate 2 and is positioned through the slot 3 and an aperture in the leg 10 of the handle support 9 and is held in position by means of a nut 19. The carrying rod 18 is identical with the rods 4 in construction.
It can'be readily seen that any number of carrying rods 4 can be supported by the plate to suit varying conditions.
In operation of the device- The carrying rods 4 are adjusted toward or away from the central rod 18 according carried and each one of the same is inserted in a drain tile and upon taking hold of the handle the ends of the rods 4 and 18 will frictionally engage the inner surface of the tiles to be carried and the same can then be conveniently carried.
If desired, a tool can be used in each hand, so that the tiles can be more conveniently handled.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practical; yet realizing the conditions concurrent with the ad option of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize that various minor 1. A tool for carrying drain tiles COll'l prising a supporting platehaying an elongated slot, a handle, a plurality of supporting rods adjustahlein the slot and extending outwardly of the plate and parallel With v the handle.
2. A tool for carrying drain tiles comprising a supporting plate having an elongated slot, a'handle support secured to the central portionoi said plate and extending upwardly from the same, ahandle secured Copies *of this-patent may be obtained for being adjustable in the slot and projecting "outwardly and lying parallel with the handle.
3. A toolfor carrying drain tiles, comprising a supporting plate, a carrying handle sccured totheplate, aplurality of rods, and. means securing the rods to the plate for relative adjustment longitudinally of the plate. I c
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.
