IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-PUMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,766, dated February 20, 1872.
I, GEORGE F. BLAKE, of Boston, county of Suffolkommonweal th of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Arran gement of Detachable Lever for Obtaining Reciprocating Motion, of which the following is a specification, referring to accompanying drawing,` and to letters of reference marked thereon.
' Nature (md Object ofwIntention. My invention relates to an improved arrangement of detachable lever for obtaining reciprocating motion, adapted to use as a handpower attachment to steampumps.
In the drawing my improvement is shownl applied to one of my steam-pumps.
A marks a lever, forked or`slotted at its lower end to pass over two pins; one, a, at-
tached to the piston-rod B; the other, b, forming the fulcrum of the lever A, and attached to a bracket, E, .projecting down from the frame D of the pump, below' the pin a.
In operating, the slotted lever A works on the pin b as a fulcrum, and carries the pistonrod B, by means of the pin a, backward and forward as the lever is moved in a similar direction.
It will be seen that, as the lower end of the lever is forked and has an open end to the slot d, it can be readily attached to or removed from the pins a. b. Also, as the pin bis placed below the rod B, and in the body of the connecting piece between the cylinders H J, when this device is used on steam-pumps, no unsightly projections or complicated arrangement of fulcrum-bearing is necessary, as is common in other devices for this special purpose.
I claim- As an improvement in steam-pump s, the arrangement, in a steam-pump, of the detachable forked lever A, working` upon the two pins a b, when constructed and operated as and for the purpose herein specified,
