Application fiIed January 8,1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I-,'JOH AN FREDERICK ANDERSON, a citizen'of Sweden, residing at Poplar Grove, in the county of Boone and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Tables and Chairs, of which the following is My present invention relates to collapsible tables and chairs, and more particularly to a device comprising both a table and chair; having for its primary object the provision of a structure adapted to be installed in a baby-carriage, thus providing a table and tray for holding the usual display of toys, etc.
Another object of my vide new and novel means for locking the collapsible edges of the table in a vertical position.
A further object of my invention is to provide a means, such as a back of a chair, adapted to be part of the table, and capable of being converted therefrom into a chair.
Having these and other objects of general utility and design in view, I have illustrated a preferred and operative form of my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view vice in the fOImof a table;
Fig. 2 is an elevation thereof, shown asthe side rails their vertical of my deof the table being shown in position Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my device shown opened into a chair;
Fig. 1 is an enlarged fragmental detail plan of one corner of the table as shown in Fig. 2 the rail being locked in its vertical position, and- Fig. 5 of Fig. 4.
Similar reference characters refer respectively to the similar parts throughout the several views.
The structure as illustrated in the drawa substantially rectangular plate 10, so constructed as to serve either as a chair seat or table top, its four corners to the upper ends of two sets of callapsible legs 11, the same being pivoted intermediate their ends, having a transto the plate as -being held in this position by ing' corners invention is to pror (Fig. 3).

shown in Figs. 2,4 and 5, means of a pivotedseg-mental shaped button 1 6', the periphery ofwhich contacts the inner perpendicular wall of the rails at their intersect- (Figs. 4: and when open, and when folded down adjacent the top of the table or plate 10, the button is rotated to a position in which it fits in a rece s 17 in the plate 10, thus making the top of the table an even, substantially level, surface. Butt-joint links or arms 18 are pivoted at 19 to the legs 11, which links fold back in recesses 20 on their sides, but which may be extended so as to serve as feet to contact the rail 21 of the baby-carriage 22 as shown in Fig. 2.
A chair back 23, is pivoted at 24 along the under rear edge of the plate 10, the forward edge of which is held adjacent the under side of the plate by means of a suitable hook or lock 25. Auxiliary legs 26, having a slot extending throughout their length are mounted (one on each side) adjacent one of each of the sets of the legs 11, engaging the rod 12 and rear pivot of the leg 11. The lower ends of the legs 26 are bentat an appreciable angle thereto, their upper ends being connected by a transverse rod 27.
It will be obvious that when it becomes desirable. to change the table as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 to the chair as shown in Fig. 3, the operator first unhooks the member 23 from the plate 10 at 25, allowing the same to pivot at 2%, swing down and then up The set screw 13 is loosened and the legs 26 drawn upwardly and inwardly (due to the curved portion of the leg). A rod 27 is removably secured in the upper end of the slots in legs 26 and is retained in the position illustrated in Fig. 1 by means of pins 23 carried by the back 23 or in the absence of such pins merely by frictional engagement with the said back for which it serves as a stop. The rod 27 may be removed by manually drawing it out of engagement with the said legs 26.
What is claimed is 1. A combination table and chair comprising a horizontally disposed substantially rectangular plate, a chair back hinged thereto along the under rear edge thereof, a lock securing the forward edge of said back adjacent the under side of said plate, suitable legs pivoted at the four corners of said upper ends of said bars,
plate, a'transverse rod connecting the same intermediate their ends, slotted bars engaging said rod and the rear pivots of said legs respectively, a rod removably connecting the said last mentioned slotted bars having their bottom ends curved at an angle thereto. 7
2. A combination table and chair comprising a substantially rectangular plate, a chair back hinged thereto, means securing said back adjacent said plate, suitable legs piv oted to said plate, a bar connecting said legs,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for slotted bars engaging said bar'and the rear pivots of said legs respectively and a rod removably connecting the upper ends of said 15 slotted bars. p
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses;
JOHAN FREDERIOH ANDERSON.
