IMPROVEMENT IN THEMANUFAGTURE OF HOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,680, dated February 13, 1872.
Specification describing an Improved Mode of Fastening Sockets to Hoe-Blades and analogous implements, invented by JOHN S. CRAIG, of Guilford, in the county of Wilson and State of Kansas.
The invention will first be fully described, and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is the sectional elevation of a sock- V et before it is fastened to the hoe-blade. Fig.
2 is the same view with the socket applied to the tool; and Fig. 3 is the front view of ahoeblade, exhibiting an aperture for receiving the socket.
A represents a Wrought-metal socket, provided with flange a, and prolongation, a. B is V a hoe-blade, having an aperture, b, formed with one or more recesses, d, which prevents its outline from being cylindrical. The prolongation a is passed through the aperture b until the inner face of blade 13 rests against the flange a of the socket. The end of prolongation a is now upset and turned over upon the front face of blade B. This upset-end a and prolongation a applied to a blade, B,
having aperture, '11, provided with one or more recesses, 01, in the manner and for the purpose described.
