Specification of Letters Patent; Patented Aug. 14, 1917.
Application filed January 15, 1917. Serial No. 142,482.
3 therein to the accompanying drawing.
1 Fig. 3.
This invention relates to a toilet seat cover and has for its object the production ofa cover formed from a single sheet of paper or other material, which is specially constructed to prevent a splash while the bowl of the toilet is being used.
Another object of the present invention is the production of an 'efiicient seat cover, which will be automatically removed fromthe seat of the toilet as soon as'the toilet is flushed.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel cohstructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In thd drawings: V
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the lavatory. i
Figw is a section taken. on line 2-2 of Fi 1. v 3 is a plan view of the lavatory seat cover.
Fig. i is a plan view of the blank from which the lavatory seat cover is formed.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective of the lava-- tory seat cover.
Fig. 6 lsga section taken on line 6 6 of Fig. 7 is a. planiviewof a modified form of the lavatory seat cover.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seenthat 1. designates the lavatory bowl which is provided with the usual seat 2. The present invention has a special reference to a lavatory seat cover which is indicated by the numeral 3 and illustrated in detail perspective in Fig. 5. This cover 3 is preferably formed from'a blanl sheet of tissue paper or other suitable pliable ma terial Which-may be found advisable for use. The cover is formed from a blank sheet of material andis provided near the center cilitating the discharge versely extending strip 5 and a dove-tail tongue 6 is cut from the outer forward edge of the strip 5 and this strip 5 is adapted to be folded back upon the body 3 and the 'tongue 6 is then folded up through the aperture 7 formed by the cutting of the ribbon or strip at from the body 3. This structure is clearly illustrated in detail in Fig. 6 of the drawings. It should be understood that the dove-tail tongue 6 by being fastened in the manner set forth, will constitute an eilicicnt reinforcement for the forward or front portion of the side portion just at a point where the greatest.- strain takes placef As clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, which show the device in a position for actual use, it will be seen that the ribbon or strip 4: of the paper which is spirally cut from the sheet 3 extends down into the bowl and the shoe 8 of the spiralribbon or strip l is adapted to rest upon the surface of the Water 9 placedwithin the bowl 1. It should be understood, however,
that the spiral ribbon or strip t may extend from any portion of the outer circumfer-- ence of the aperture 7 without departing from the spirit of the invention, for it is not absolutely necessary'that the spiral ribbon or strip ishould extend fromone side of the aperture such asi'llustrated in Fig.3,
although it is preferable to have the devihe constructed in accordance with the illustration. disclosed in Fig. 5 of the drawings. It should be further understood that the shoe 8 is adapted to fit directly under the center of the opening 10 formed in the seat 2 and for this reason will prevent the splash within the bowl 1. It should befurther understood that owing to the construction of the spiral ribbon or strip 4, the flushing of the bowl will cause the seat cover to be autothe spiral i As illustrated in Figs... 3 and 4. of the drawings, the body 3 may be provided with a perforated or scored line 11 extending across the rear of theistrip 4 so as to cause the same to be readily torn or ripped as soon asthe bowl is flushed, thereby tearing the seat cover into one arrow strip for fa.-
iif the cover through the. outlet of the bowl.
As shown in Fig. 7 city the drawingsgthe I -ibbon or strip 4 and pullthe: cover 3 down into the bowl.
matically .drawn into the bowl and be-easil'y discharged therefrom for the reason that the spiral tongue 4' may be formed rectangular or in any suitable or desirable shape and it. should be ul'iderstood that where the town spiral ribbon or stri p is employed in the fol lowing claims, that it is intondor'i that the term should cover a tongue ribbon or strip which is spirally constructed whether the same should be forn'ied substantially rec-- tangul'ar or substantially circular.
It of course, should. be understood that these core-rs may be supported prior to use within any suitable or "desired receptacle or may be mounted in apadlike form.
What claimed is:
1. .As a new article of: manufacture, a sanita ry toilet seat cover formed of a single piece of pliable material provided with a spirally out strip formed from said body and adapted to hang below said body.
2. As anew article of manufacture, a sani tary toilet seat cover formed from pliable material and provided with a tongue out spirally therefrom and adapted to hang be low the normal level of said cover.
A sanitary toilet seat core-r formed fronrpliabie material and provided with a spirally out strip adapted to hang: below the normal level of said cover, the lower end of said stri p adapted to rest upon the water carried within the toilvt bow and said on ver provided with a. reinforecd forward. end.
4. A sanitary toilet seat cover fori'ne-d from pliable material. and, provided with a spirally out strip adapted to hang below the I1or1nal level of said cover, the lower end of said, strip adapted-t0 rest upon the water curried within the toilet bowl said. cover provided with a transversely extending roinloroing strip bunt baclnvurdly across th front odor of said cover, said transversely extending roini'i'nring strip provided with a dm'irtuil tongue out therefrom, and said dove-tail. tongue being bent hackwardly upon said body and (-ixtonding through the aperture formed by the cutting of said spiral strip from said COVGI for firmly holding said reinforcing strip in a set position. 4
5. A sanitary toilet seat cover formed from pliable material and. provided. with a spirally out strip adapted to hang below the normal level oi? said cover, the lower end of said strip adapted to rest upon the Water carried within the toilet bowl, said coverprovided with a transversely extending reinforoim strip bent backwardly across the front of said, cover, said transversely extending reinforcing strip provided with a dovetail tongue out therefrom, said dovetail tongue bei 'ig bent backwu rd ly upon said l'mdy and extending through the aperture formed byiiho cutting of said spiral strip 'i'roni said CU'HI' for firmly holding said reiniorcing strip n a set position, and said cover providerl with angularly extending perforations p rojroting across the rear end thereof for ixnrmitring said cover to be torn into a narrow strip.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature.
