3 Sheets-Sheet 3 Java/775A Patented June 6, 1933 PATENT OFFICE HAL DE WAIDE, OF PORTLAND, OREGON DISPENSER FOR ROLLED SHEET MATERIAL Application filed November 3, 1930. Serial No. 492,983.
My invention relates to roll paper dispensers especially adapted for dis ensmg flat sheets of thin tissue paper, speci cally tollet seat covers of the class described in my Patent, No. 1,744,300, dated January 21, 1930, en-
titled Senitary toilet seat cover.
Such toilet seat covers are generally pro vided gratis in the semi-public toilets of hotels, otfice buildings, andthe like, and are most eonveniently provided for this use in rolls, from which each seat cover is separable by means of transverse slits or perforations.
However, although this manner of dispensing the seat covers is the most economical r satisfactory, there are certain disedvantages, in that the tendency is for the user to cerelessly pull off more than one seat cover a t e, which is wasteful; and further, breaking the perforated bond he tween the-covers,. the cover on each side is frequently torn and rendered useless, which is the cause of furth r waste.
Therefore the object of my invention is to provide troll paper dispenser for such toilet set covers adepted to permit only one seat cover to he withdrawn at s time without tear i g, hy meens ot'devicesprovided on the dis enser edepted to cooperate with suitable Q. or
ceted on the division line between the individuel seat covers, wherelo the seat covers will he readily separable rom the body of the roll by the more not oi drawing the seat cover from the dispenser.
A further object of my invention is to rovide dispenser having means by whic it he firmly secured to the wall of a room wit out deiae it with screws or bolts.
l ettain my sheets in a dispenser for rolled sheet material comprising a housing, means by the housing for rotatably and re.-
inovahly cerrying a roll of said sheet material, a cover hinged to said housing, the free edge of the cover provided with means adapted to bear against the sheet material as the material is unwound", said means carried by the cover formed to ex the next following edge of the 'materia whereby it may be conveniently grasped to be withdrawn.
"erroretions or slits in the paper web, lo-- These and other incidental objects of my invention, the details of construction and the mode of operation are hereinafter fully described with reference to the accompany- P ing drawings.
in the drawings:
Fig. 1 shows a front elevation oi m dispenser and illustrates a seat cover with rawn therefrom, but as yet not disconnected from the roll;
Fig. 2 shows an end elevation of my dispenser with parts broken away to illustrate the arrangement of the roll therein and how the seat cover is withdrawn;
Fig. 3 shows a transverse section of the same with the cover raised;
Fig. 4 shows a perspective view of the cover removed from the dispenser;
Fig. 5shows a perspective view or" my dispenser with the cover removed; I m Fig. 6 shows a front elevation of the means progided for fastening my dispenser to the wet i V Fig. 7 shows a transverse fragmentary section taken on the line ?-7 of Fig. 6 and illustrates further details of construction;
Fig. 8 shows e. front elevation of my dispenser with parts broken away to disclose the errangement oi the roll in the dispenser;
Fig. 9 shows it number of the seat covers arranged in the roll and illustrates the means by which they are separable one from the other.
Referring now to the drawings: M dispenser comprises an open housing a an covor f. The housing consists of back, bottom, and end walls 0; d, e and e, respectively. The cover f is hinged to the upper edge of the wall 0 as at g and comprises a to wall, 7, front wall 2' and end walls 51', y" which when closed, envelope the said housing.
fixed inwardly extending pin is is provided on the end wall 6 and an elongate resilient member Z is secured to the exterior of the end wall 6' at one end, and arran ed so that the other end Z on whichis provi ed an inward extending pin m will bear in a circular opening in the said end portion e. By these means, a roll of seat covers, as w in Fig. 2, may be removably mounted therein by inserting said pins 70, m in recesses provlded in the ends of the spindles 3 upon which the, rolled sheet material is commonly wound.
The edge of the bottom wall (2 of the housing a is rolled as at 0 and the free edge of the cover is provided with an inwardly and downwardly inclined extension p of less width than the body of the cover, see Figs. 1 and 4, so that when the roll of seat covers is mounted in the housing a and arranged so as to be unwound from the under side, the seat covers may be conveniently grasped to be unwound from the roll.
The corners g of the extension p are bent inwardly slightly and rounded so as to bear against the seat cover as it is withdrawn from the roll.
The seat covers, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 9, are separable from the body of the roll by transverse incisions 1' and supplementary, longitudinal perforations or slits on the said line of incisions. The perforations or slits s are so arranged that as the seat covers are drawn from the dispenser by grasping the corner thereof in each hand, see Fig. 1, the
V corners g of the extension 12 engage the said perforations s and retard the movement of the sheet, thus causing the bonds 1" between the incisions r to break.
Thus each cover as it is drawn out will automatically be broken from the body of the extending inward over and beyond said ed e, the corners of the free end of said cover eing formed to present interior knob-like protrusions, whereby to centralize the pressure exerted on the sheet in the pulling of the same from the housing, and thus cause the tearing off of a portion of the sheet along its said incisions.
2. As a dispenser for a roll of sheet material provided with transverse incisions arranged to facilitate separation of the sheet into successive portions, a housing provided with means-for rotatably carrying the said roll, the housing having a rounded ed e over which to draw the sheet, and a cover inged to said housing, the free edge of said cover extending inward over and beyond said edge, the corners of the free end of said cover being formed to present interior knob-like protrusions, whereby to centralize the pressure exerted on the sheet in the pulling of the same from the housing, and thus cause the.
tearing off of a portion of the sheet along its said incisions, said free ends of the cover being cut .away so as to expose the lower corner portions of the succeeding portion of the sheet.
HAL DE VVAIDE.
break before the body of the seat cover will tear.
Further, as each cover is broken from the the lip p and thus may be conveniently grasped. l
The means I have provided for fastening my dispenser to the wall comprise concavoconvex discs 2 having lips 3 punched through so as to project into the concavity of the disc and bolts 4 located centrally in the disc and projecting from the convex side. By this construction, by filling the disc 2 with a quick drying cement, as at 5, and pressing the same against the wall a permanent fixture is provided to which the dispenser may be fastened by locating the discs 5 in suitable depressions c in the wall 0 of the housing and threading a nut as 6 on theend of the bolt.
I claim:
1. As a dispenser for a roll of sheet material provided with transverse incisions arranged to facilitate separation of the sheet into successive portions, a housing provided with means for rotatably carrying the said roll, the housing having a rounded ed eover which to draw the sheet, and a cover inged to said housing, the free edge of said cover
