IWHDROVEMENT EN ANTi-CGNCUSSION di.i'iEFDCCKS' Specification forming part of LcttcrsPatent No. 123,606, dated February 13, 1872.v l
'Specification describing certain Improve.
ments in Anti-Concussion fetter-Cocks, invented yby MIFFLIN W. BMLY, of Pottstown, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania.
rlhe figure is a detailed sectional View of my improved water-cock.
My invention has for vits object to furnish an improved cock for attachment to a water-pipe,
hich shall be so constructed as te prevent the concussion when the cock is closed and the movement ofthe column of water checked; and it consists in the combinationv of an air-chamber with the cock, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the inlet of the cock, which is designed to be connectedwith the water-pipe. B is the outlet through which the water is discharged. U is an air-pipe or chamber formed upon the cock. The upper end of the pipe or chamber C is closed, and its lower end communicates with the interior of the cock. D is the plug, which is fitted into the interior of the cock in the ordinary manner. In the lower part ot' the plug, D is formed a perforation, d1, so that when the said plugis turned into the position shown in the iigure a passa-ge may be opened from the inlet A to the outlet B. In the upper part ofthe plug' D is formed a perforation, d2, at such an angle with the perforation d1 that when the plug D is turned into such a position as to close the passage between the inlet A and outlet B the perforation cl2' may form a passage from the inlet A through the offset w formed upon said inlet to the air-chamber G. NVith this construction, when the plug D is turnedl to shut ot the water a passage is opened into the air-chamber C, so that the movement of the column of water may be checked by and the cock thus relieved from the concussion. Vhen thevplup,` D is `turned into such a position as to close the passage leading to the airchamber C the water in said chamber is forced v out through a wastehole, c', by the compressed air, and more air passes in to again form a cushion for the water, when the cock is again closed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The device A B C c1 al, combined with cock D, havin g apertures ddl at right an glesto each other, when all are constructed and adapted to be used together, as and for the purpose described.
