IMPROVEMENT IN LlF TI NG-JACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,593, dated February 13, 1872.
To whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnPn TERREL, of Royal Centre, in the county of Cass and State of Indiana,haveinvented a new and Improved Machine for Raising \Vagons and other heavy articles, called a Wagon-Jack and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description, reference being bad to the annexed drawing. and to the letters and numbers of reference thereon.
This invention relates to improvement in lifting-jacks; and it has for its object the production of a device for slightly elevating heavy bodies by hand-powera device simple in construction, handy, effectual when used, and free from the objections of liability to totter or yield to lateral pressure.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A
represents the base, which is preferably made in a triangular shape, and of a size sufficient to insure the required strength and firmness. Thelever-supportB rests in amortise inthewide end of the baserA, and projects upward at a. suitable inclination to be properly supported by the brace (J. .The' upper end of the support Bis slotted to receive the lever E, as shown, and pierced for the fulcrum-pin 12, on which the lever rests. The lever E is preferably made in the form shown, the 'short arm scalloped to secure afirm hold on the body tobe elevated, and the long arm tapering, smoothed for the hand, and adjustable by means of a pin, and a perforated standard, D, firmly secured in a mortise in the narrow end of the bar A, all as represented.
I claim as my invention- A lifting-jack, consisting of the triangular base A, -lever-support B, and brace 0, both firmly secured in the base A ,and the support B being inclined and slotted, the lever E and the standard D provided with holes and pin to secure the end of the lever, and firmly mortised in the narrow end of the bar A, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
