MABEL M. LAUZON, OF HIBBING, MINNESOTA..
GARMENT.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 1917.
Application led October 26, 1916. Serial No. 127,769.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MABEL M. LAUZON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hibbing, in the county of Saint Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Garment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to womens wearing apparel and its object is to provide a new and improved garment, more especially designed to take the place of the kimono, and arranged to properly and neatly fit the wearer, andto allow of quick and convenient opening and closing of thek garment without the use of buttons, hooks and eyes, or similar fastening devices.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of integral upper and lower body portions, the upper body portion having a neck opening and sleeves, and the said upper and lower body portions being open along the front median line from the neck opening downward to a short distance below the waist line, and the open front of the upper body portion having tying bands extending from about the waist line and being adapted to vcross at the front with a view to close the front portions in overlapping relation7 the tying bands being adapted to pass rearwardly over the sides above the hips to the back of the garment for tying into a bow.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the garment in open position Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same in closed position;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same;
Fig. 4f is an enlarged sectional plan view of one of the closing flaps on the line 4 4 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 5 is a similar view of the other closing flap on the line 5--5 of Fig. 1.
The body of the garment consists essentially of an upper body portion 10 and a lower body portion 11 integrally connected with each other, and the upper body portion 10 is provided with a neck opening 12 and sleeves 13, and the neck opening is preferably adorned with a collar 14, as indicated in the drawings. The upper and lower body portions 10 and 1l are open along the front median line from the neck opening 12 down to a point 15 located a short distance below the waist line of the garment, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2. By this arrangement the garment when in open position can be readily slipped on or removed by the user.
One side of the open front is divided horizontally to form an upper lap 16 and a lower flap 17, and from the lower edge of the flap 16 extends a tying band 18. The lower flap 17 is adapted to be overlapped by the lower portionmot the other closing flap 19 of the open front, and from the upper portion 20 of the overlapping flap 19 extends a tying band 21, both tying bands 18 and 21 extending from about the waist line and crossed in front and then passed rearwardly to be tied at the back into a knot or bow 22, as plainly indicated in Fig. 3.
The closing flap 19 is gathered by a double fold at 23 at the beginningof the tying band 21, and the gathered portion is reinforced by a reinforcing strip 24 sewed to the flap at the inner face thereof and through the double fold, as plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 4. By this arrangement the material of the upper body portion 10 is not liable to be torn when the garment is used. The other liap 16 for the same reason is similarly gathered by a double fold at the beginning of the tying band 18, as indicated at 25 in Figs. 1 and 5.
It will be noticed that by the arrangement described the front open portions of the garment can be readily closed in overlying relation with each other and held in closed position by passing the bands to the back and tying the same in a bow or a knot.
It will further be noticed that by the arrangement described the tying bands 18 and 21 enhance the appearance of the garment both at the front and at the back, and the body of the garment is drawn in properly at the waist line thus giving a neat appearance to the garment when worn.
the neck opening downward to e short distance below the Waist and forming overlapping aps, each of said overlappingeps being gathered by a, cloublefold and reinforced at' such cloublefoldecl potion, and tying bands attached to said leps at the cloublefol'clecl' reinfoieedf portion.
MRS. MABEL M. LAUZON.
Having thus desoiibed my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pateiit:V Y
