. lnecication of Letters Patent.
Gninnrn'c-nmcnrnn TABLE.
Patented July 3i t m *1.
Application filed loctober 24, 1916. Serial No.v $27,396.
To aZZ rollo/m t may concern:
Be it known thatl, CHARLES NORTON, citizen of the United States, residing at livorcester, in, the county or' lforcester and lState of Massachusetts, have invented a nee7 which trie following is a specification. y
rlhis invention relates to a grinding niachine table' and particularly to improyed drainage devices therefor.
l have shown' my invention as embodied in a grinding machine table having an upstanding portion extending longitudinally of the table and forming one supportvfor the head and foot stocks, but certain features types ci table.
lft is the object ci' my invention to provide a construction of grinding machine table in" which the Water failing thereon from the therein to the back of the table, Where the 'Water passes downward into a trough 32 Work or the grinding Wheel will be remo/Led therefrom' at ,a plurality ot separated points,
thereby preventing iovv oivvrater along the table.
With this its preferred form contemplates the provision of a plurality of separated grooves extending transversely of the table and preferably inclined rearwardly. The grooves may, ir" so desired, extend beneath the upstanding portion and may be connected to a drain trough extending longitudinally along the front of the table.
lvly invention further relates to certain arrangements and.A combinations .of parts hereinafter described and more particularly set forth in the-'appended cla-imola"` y il preferred form of myvr invention is shown in the drawings in Which-.-
Figure l is a sectional elevation of a grinding machine table taken along the line 1.-1 in Fig. 2, and
Fig. 2 is a partial plan view of the table shown in Fig. drawn on a reduced scale.
Referring to Fig. l, Ihave shovvn a swivel. table'lO mounted on a sliding table il which is supported on Ways 1Q and i3 formed on the base 14, ci a grinding machine. The
.swivel tableflO. is-provided with an opstanding portion/l5 having Ways 16 thereon, and forming one support of the foot stool: 20 and of the head stock (not shown); An additional li'nished surface 21 forms a second 'support ier the head and foot stocks, the
object in vie-vv, my invention in latter being/secured to the table by avclamping member 22 and'bolt 23.. l
The foot' stock may be moved lcngitudiv plurality ot grooves 30 are formed in the upper surface of the table, extending transversely across the same. In the preferred prm, these grooves extend beneath the portion 15 and connect with a trough 31 extend- `ing along the front edge of the table. The bottom of the grooves are inclined rear- Wardly and conduct the Water received formed in the base of the machine.
By this provision of a plurality of sepa-- rated transverse grooves, the iiovv of Water along the table and particularly beneath the head and foot stocks is prevented. lt is impossible for any considerable amount ot Water to accumulate upon the table as every small portion thereof will be drained away by the adjacent grooves.
While l have shovvn the grooves as extending` completely across the table and beneath the portion i5, many 'of the advantages of my invention can be realized by providing grooves on the rear portion of the table, only, omitting the passages beneath the portion l5. ltis of course obvious that the invenn tion is applicable to a plain grinding machine 'lable as Well as to the swivel table shown in the drawings7 and that it mav be applicdto the tables of other machines in which similar conditions are found.
Having.I thus described my invention it will be'levident that changes and modifications can be made therein by those skilled in the art Without departing. from the spirit and scope of my invention as set forth in the claims, .and l do not Wish to be otherwise limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I'claim is l. Al grinding machine table having a plurality of separated transverse drainage passages formed therein to remove Water falling on said table, and to prevent Said water flowing longitudinally of said table.
A. grinding machine table haring a plurality of separated transverse drainage passage formed therein, each inclined toward the rear of the table, whereby Waiter falling upon the table Will be drained into a trough formed in the base of the machine. 3. A grinding machine table having an npstanding portion extending longitudinal] thereof und forming one support for the head vand foot Stocks, said table having a trough along its front edge and having a plurality of separated rearwardly-inclined transverse drainage passages formed therein7 extending across the table and beneath Said upstanding portion and connecting with said trough, V'\'hereloy water may he eleetively removed from said table and trough.
ln testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
