Slidably mounted betweenthe lugs 14 is a bracket arm 16 having the guide lug15 engaging over the upper edge thereof to cooperatewith the lugs 14 for holding the said bracket against displacement when weight is applied to the outer end of the said arm. Embracing the bracket arm 16 1s a clamping arm 17. This arm is integral with the bracket body 11 and is connected to the lower edge of the said body with the arm bent about the bracket arm 16 and directed upwardly to confront at its free end with. an upstandingscrew receiving. lug 18 integrally formed on the .upper edge of the bracket body. The lug 18 is, asparticnlarly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, outwardly dished or formed with a' concavo-convex portion 19 while the free end of the arm 17,1is formed with a. similar portion 20 to fit over the portion 19 of the lug 18. 7 portion 20 of the arm 17 and screwed into the dished portion 19 of the lug 18, is a screw 21 adjustable for clamping the arm 17 against the bracket arm 16 for holding the said bracket arm at longitudinal adjustment with respect to the body 11. In this connection, particular attention is directed to the function of the dished portions 19 and 20. It will be noted that when the body 11 of the bracket is seated fiat against the front face of the window casing, as particularly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings, the inner end of the screw 21 will be received within the concavity formed by the dished portion 19 of the lug 18 so that the said screw cannot contact with the casing to mar the surface thereof. The bracket 16 is also preferably formed of suitable sheet metal and at its outer extremity is provided with a forwardly directed extension 22. Struck from this extension is a post 23 while the upper edgeof the arm is cut away to provide a socket 2e for receiving any conventional type of curtain pole and to define a terminal finger 25 upon the said extension.
As previously indicated, a pair of brackets, as shown in Fig. 3, is employed atopposite sides of the window casing and when so used, the arms 16 of the said brackets will, of course, extend in opposite directions with respect to the bracket bodies 11 for support-- ing a shade roller, as conventionally shown at 26, between the extensions 22. These extensions are respectively formed one with the usual opening and the other with a slot for receiving the trunnions of the shade roller and operatively supporting the shade in front of the window opening, and as will now be clear, the brackets 16 may, by properly manipulating the set screws 21, be easily adjusted with respect to each other for receiving shade rollers of different lengths or for positioning the shade roller with respect to the window opening. Moreover, this adjustment may be accomplished without molesting the connection bet-ween the bracket bodies 11 and the window casing. A curtain pole positioned within the sockets 24 of the extensions 22 of the brackets will be supported in proper position 'for receiving a curtain hung in front of the shade. In this connection, attention is directed to the function. of the fingers 25. These fingers are ofa size to extend through the openings usually provided in the telescopic sections of the ordinary metallic curtain rod so that such rod may be suspended upon the said fingers for receiving the cur tain in the usual manner. Certain of these telescopic curtain rods of the type referred to are formed of cylin'drlcal sections while others are of the type illustrated in Figs. 1.
and 2 of the drawings and conventionally Freely fitted through the dished shown at 27. To accommodate this type of curtain rod, posts 28 are provided. These posts are formed to receive the ends of the said rod for supporting the rod in front of the shade to receive the curtain.
It will therefore be seen that, I provide a very simple and efficient construction for the purpose set forth and a support which may be readily applied and used without likelihood of injuring thewindow casing.
In Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings, I have illustrated a slight modification of the invention showing a bracket designed for attachment to the inner face of the top cross piece of the window casing with the bracket ar- 30 ranged to depend therefrom for'receiving a shade roller and curtain pole. This modified form of bracket is particularly designed for use in brick houses whereinthe window cas ings are not usually provided with a front 5 facing. In this modification, the attaching lugs 12 of the preferred form of the invention are eliminated and the body 11 of the bracket is provided with openings 28 adapted to receive screws or other suitable fasteng ing'devices for securing the bracket in position. In the preferred form of the invention, the finger 25 extends longitudinally of the extension 22 while in this modification a finger 29 is employed which extends laterally and forwardly from the said extension for receiving the curtain pole as well as for receiving a sectional curtain rod in the manner previously described wlth reference to with the preferred form of the invention and it will be seen that when a pair of the said brackets are connected to the top of a window casing in the manner illustrated in 05 Fig. 6, the said brackets will form a sup port adapted to adjustably receive ashade and curtain pole for supporting the shade and curtain in front of the window opening: 7 In Fig. 8 of the drawings, I have illus trated a still further modification of the invention particularly designed for use in any instance wherein the window casing is provided with a cap mold, as shown at 30. In this modification, the attaching lugs 12 of 5 the preferred form of the invention are extended upwardly in a plane with the body 11 of the device to provide suspension arms 31', with the said arms formed or bent at" their upper extremities, to extend around the 12 mold 30 and engage over the upperedge thereof to be secured to the said mold by screws or other suitable fastening devices. Otherwise, this modified form of the inven tion is constructed in accordance with the 25 preferred form. It will be noted that the arms 31 are arranged to support the bracket body resting against the outer face of the window casing and the spacing of said bracket body from the cap mold may be easily regulated by varying the length of the arms 31. It will, of course, be understood that a pair of the brackets constructed in accordance with this modification is to be employed for supporting the curtain and shade.
In Fig. 9 of the drawings, I have illustrated a still further modification of the invention wherein a bracket 32 only is employed. This bracket is substantially similar to the bracket 16 of the preferred form of the invention and the bracket body is eliminated. It will be observed. that the bracket 32 is provided at its inner extremity with a laterally directed attaching lug 33 designed for connection to the window casing and from which projects an extension 34 identical with the extension 22 of the preferred form of bracket. This construction pro vides a very simple and inexpensive arrangement and a pair of the brackets 32 may be mounted upon opposite sides of a window casing for supporting a curtain and shade in front of the window opening.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described including a bracket body, a bracket arm seat ing flat against the body and adjustable thereon a clamping arm embracing the bracket arm and free at one extremity thereof, and means carried by the free extremity of the said last mentioned arm and operable for clamping the said arm against the bracket arm for holding the bracket arm at adjustment.
2. A device of the character described including a bracket body, guide lugs formed from the outer end edge thereof, a bracket arm adjustable uponthe bracket body between said lugs, an arm embracing the bracket arm in the rear of said lugs and free at one extremity thereof, and means for clamping the free extremity of said last men tioned arm against the bracket arm for holding the bracket arm at adjustment.
3. A device of the character described including a flat bracket body provided with an outwardly dished portion, a bracket arm adjustable upon the said body, an arm embracing the bracket arm and having one extremity free and disposed opposite said dished portion, and means cooperating with the said last mentioned arm for clamping the free extremity of said arm against the bracket arm to hold the bracket arm at adjustment with the inner extremity of the said means received within the said dished portion of the bracket body terminating short of the rear side of the bracket body.
4:. A device of the character described including a flat bracket body, a bracket arm adjustable thereon, an arm extending from one margin of the bracket body and embrac/ ing the bracket arm, one extremity of the said last mentioned arm being free, a lug projecting from a margin of the bracket body, interfitting dished portions formed on the said lug and the free extremity of said last mentioned arm with the said dished portions extending away from the rear side of the body, and a set screw extending through said dished portions and engaging with the lug for clamping the free extremity of said last mentioned arm against the bracket arm to hold the bracket arm at adjustment with the inner extremity of said screw received within the concavity formed by the dished portion of said lug and terminating short of the rear side of the bracket body.
5. A device of the character described including a flat elongated bracket body, at taching elements formed on the extremities of the body and projecting from the upper margin thereof with the free terminals of said elements directed laterally for engage ment with a support, a bracket arm adjustable upon the body, and an arm having one extremity free and adjustable to frictionally cooperate with said bracket arm for holding the bracket arm at adjustment.
6. A bracket including a bracket arm provided with an extension cut away upon its upper edge to operatively receive 'a curtain pole, a post struck from the said extension and bent to extend laterally therefrom and thence forwardly in substantially parallel relation to the extension, and an upstanding lug formed on the upper edge of the forwardly extending portion of said post for engagement with a curtain rod supported by the post.
