IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-HUSKERS.
Specification describing a new and Improved Corn-Husker,invented by PETER P. SNELL, of Manheim, in the county of Herkimer and State oi' New York.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved cornhusker. Fig-2 is a detail cross-section ofthe same taken through the line a', Fig. l.

The invention will first be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the claims.
A represents a bench, which is supported upon legs, B, of such a length as to raise it to a 'convenient height. The side edges of the middle part of the bench ,A are concaved to allow the operator to sit astride of it conveniently. To the upper side oi' the middle part of the bench A is secured a metallic plate or casting, C, having two parallel upwardly-projecting anges, c', formed upon its upper part. The upper edges ofthe iianges c are concaved between their centers and ends, as shown in Fig. 1, to receive the ear to be husked. D is a 1ever, which is pivoted to and between the tlanges o', and which passes down through a slot in the middle part of the casting C and bench A. Through the lower end ofthe lever D is passed a pin, d', the ends of which project sufliciently to receive the foot or feet of the operator. To the upper end of the lever D, a little above the casting C c', is attached a knife or cutter, E, having' serrated or slotted edges, as shown in Fig. l. The cutter E is attached to the end of the lever D so that its edges may project upon the opposite sides of said lever D, so as to pass down alternately between the flanges c as the lever D is vibrated.
In using the machine the operator or operators sit astride ofthe bench A at the end of the casting C c and places his foot upon the pin d of the lever D. An ear ot corn is then placed across the concaved upper edges of the lian ges c' otA the casting C in such a position that the knife E, as it descends, may sever the butt of the ear, allowing it to drop from the husks. Another ear is then placed upon the iianges c at the other side of the level' D, which is hushed in the saine manner as hereinbeiore described, so that an ear may be husked at each movement ofthe lever D.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters PatentF 1. The casting C, having concaved iianges c c', combined with the double-edged and vibrating'knii'e E, as and for the purpose described.
2. The lever D, provided with pin d at lower end, when pivoted between plates G C and attached rigidly to a knife, E, as and for the purpose described.
