Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY BLACKBURN, OF BELMONT, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 ALENA S. CARMICHAEL, OF TRURO, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA.
LADYS FOLDING WORK-TABLE.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY BLACKBURN, a subject of the King of England, residing at Belmont, in the county of Colchester, in the Province o-f Nova Scotia and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and usefulV Ladies Folding W'ork-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ladies work tables, which are used to facilitate the manufacture of wearing apparel, fancy work, etc., and the objects of my invention are to provide a convenient table which may be used for a variety of purposes, and which can be easily moved to any required position, and which, when not in use, can be folded so as to occupy a minimum amount of space and suspended in any convenient place.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a plan of my invention in its working position.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same showing the position of the curved cover when not in use.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of my invention with the curved cover moved to its concealed position showing the reels, pincushion and suspending projection.
Fig. il is an end view of the table in its folded position, adapted to be suspended in any convenient position.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views. a zare legs rigidly secured together and carrying the drawer f, the receptacle g, the pincushion y', the reels z' z', the recess o, and the suspension projection m. c c are members pivotally at tached to the said legs a a. cl is a table top connecting said members to each other. b are legs pivotally connected to said members. e e are thin metal strips which can be used to connect the legsa and b when not folded. The receptacle g has part of its cover hinged, the remainder being occupied by the reels i. h is the hinged cover of the receptacle g. y'

is a pincushion which may be varied as to size or shape.' n is a curved cover for the purpose of protecting the reels i z' and the pincushion y' when not in use and is removable into the recess 0. The projection fm, is firmly secured to the table for the purpose of suspending it in a convenient place when not 1n use.
To bring the table from its folded to its working position, raise the table top carrying the members c 0 to a level position, then swing out the legs I) b to a vertical position and secure the metal strips as shown in Fig. 2. To fold the table disconnect the folding legs from the stationary ones, swing the folding legs inward and upward and the members c c and table downward and inward until the several members are in the position shown in Fig. 4.
Having described and illustrated my invention what I claim and desire to secure by patent is A ladies folding work table comprising two rigidly connected stationary perpen dicular legs, two members pivotally connected to said legs, a table top rigidly connected to said members and adapted to move therewith, two legs pivotally attached to the free end of said members and adapted to fold therewith to a vertical position adjacent to said stationary legs, and means to hold said pivotally attached legs in a supporting position beneath said table top consisting of locking braces joining the stationary and pivoted legs, receptacles rigidly secured to said stationary perpendicular legs, at right angles therewith, a movable, curved cover surmounting said receptacles, a recess for the reception of said cover, and means for suspending said work table; all substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
S. D. VHEELAN, T. H. CARMICHAEL.
Goples of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patente, Washington, D. C.
