Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3,1917.
Application filed JanuaryZl, 1916. Serial No. 73,420.
To aZlw/wm it mag concern:
Be it known that I, HARTVIG. SORLEYLGL citizen of'Norway, residingat Macomb 1n the county of McDonough: and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Creepers, of which; the following is aspecification This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in: creepers and re:-
lates more specifically to devicesofrthe character intended for use by painters, carpen tel-sand thelike and known as-rcof creeperss The invention hasfor its primary object, the provision of a creeper which may be readily clamped upon the shoe and adpusted for use upoir inclined roofs or similar surfaces, the device being adjusted according to the pitch'ofthe roof or angle ofthe 1 11 olined surface:
The invention has for a further object the provision of creeper of this character which will beof simple: construction,- may be readily adjusted and will be highly ethcient use.
With the above and other objects view, the, invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of' parts as will be hereinafter more specifically set forth, pointed out in the claims; and shown in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is aside elevation of the complete devicein use, and,
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view, partly in section, as indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1 p p Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference charactersdesignate corresponding, parts throughout the: several views, ldesignatesthe tray within which the shoe ofthe operatorgmay be clamping straps 2a d"apted"to be aclj'nsted' and secnredover the shoe, as indicated in Fig. 1. Thetray 1 is pivotedat its narrow forward. end upon the pivot 3 which extends through the forward ends of the longitudinal frame membersiand the upturnedend's 5= ofthefront creeper plate 6 which hasadependingtoothededge' 7l The longitudinal frame members 4: have their opposite ends secured to 'the upper ends of the rear frame members 8 which arezpreferably formed of angle iron and have the rear creeper plate 9" secured to their lower ends and provided with-a depending t'cothededge 10; By forming the rear of the frame members 80f angle iron and bending the ends of the'longitudinal frame members, a rigid connection may be made between said frame members 4:- and 8. The curved or arcuate' intermediate frame members 11 are also secured at their upper ends to the upper ends of the frame members d and 8 and the intermediate frame members 11' have secured to their lower'ends the intermediate brace I member 12. The intermediate frame mem here 11 are also preferably formedof angle iron and are braced by suitable brace bars 14 connecting the lower ends of the same with the intermediate portions of the rear frame members 8-. Brace bars15 are also provided to connect the brace bars 14 with the longitudinal frame members 4 to further brace the frame.
The intermediate frame members 11 are provided 1n their front faces with suitable openings 16 within which are normally engaged the turned ends 17 of the latch member 18. The latch member 18 extends trans versely beneath the heel receiving portion of the tray 1 and has its main portionprovided with a central extension 19 projecting rearwardly through the guide 20 secured upon the guide plate 23 which in turn is secured to the bottom of the tray 1 and provided withsuitable guide openings for the intermediate frame members 11', as willi'be Fig. 1 of the drawings.
From the foregoing it will be readily seen that the tray 1 may be adjusted in the supporting frame byforcing inwardly the extension l9to disengage the endsl7 of the latch member 18 from the openings 16 and swingingthe tray 1 upon its forward end, permitting the spring 21 to return the latchmember 1' 8 to operative position for the purpose of locking the tray 1 in adjusted position? i While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it will be under-stood that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages of the same.
