JOHN J'. TOMCI-IECK, OF TWO RIVERS, WISCONSIN.
FLOOR-JACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 26, 1917.
Application filed November 20, 1916. Serial No. 132,324.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOI-1N J. TOMCHECK, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Two Rivers, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floor Jacks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in fioor jacks, such as used in laying sections of hard wood lioors to procure a proper abutting engagement of the boards, and comprising alfulcrum spur and lever mea-ns for procuring bearing action of a suitable board engaging shoe.
It is primarily the object of the present invention to simplify and otherwise improve the structure, and to increase the efliciency of floor jacks of this nature, particularly with respect to increasing the readiness of manipulation of such devices.
A further object resides in the provision of a foot controlled fulcrum spur whereby the weight of the operator is utilized to procure a proper anchorage of the jack in its successive operations.
Vith the above and other objects and advantages in view, invention resides more particularly in the arrangement of bars hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a side elevational view of a floor jack constructed in accordance with the present invention, with portions broken away to more clearly disclose the structure.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the jack.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, 5 designates the floor board engaging shoe of the jack, which has its face provided with the usual groove 6 for receiving the tenon of a floor board 7, and extending laterally from this shoe is a bar 8 having a longitudinal slot 9 in its rear portion through which is passed a bolt l0 passing also through the lower bifurcated end of the upstanding main lever l1 of the jack. Iivoted on the bolt 10 is a forwardly extending pawl bar l2 having a spur 13 depending from its free end for engagement in the joist or under flooring lil, and also carrying at said free end a foot rest l2. Pivoted to the lever l1 and to the shoe carrying bar 8 forwardly of the lever is an arcuate link l5.
Thus upon engaging the spur 13 in the joist or under Hooring 14, and swinging the lever 11 forwardly, the shoe 5 will be moved forwardly to properly seat the floor board with which it is engaged. The jack may thus be manipulated in an exceedingly ready manner by a person standing upon the previously laid boards, and by placing his footJ on the rest 12, the operator is afforded a bracing means and at the same time the jack is most positively anchored.
While the rear end of the bar 8 has been described as slotted to receive the bolt l0, it is appreciated that any method of slidably guiding the bar 8 may be utilized; in fact it might not be under all conditions essential to provide a positive guide for the bar. It will be also appreciated that various other changes in the structure herein shown may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of invention as interpreted by the accompanying claims.
What is claimed is.
1. A floor jack comprising a board lengaging shoe, a lever, a spur carrying bar pivoted to the lower `end of the lever for vertical movement, afoot rest on the bar, and a link connected with the shoe and the intermediate portion of the lever.
2. A ioor jack comprising a bar, a shoe at one end of the bar, a lever having its lower end slidingly connected with the other end of the bar, a spur carrying bar pivoted to said lower end of the lever, and a link connected with the intermediate portion of the lever and the first bar.
3. A floor jack comprising a bar provided with a longitudinal slot in one end, a shoe at the other end of the bar, a lever, a spur carrying bar, a bolt passing through the lower end of the lever and through the tooth carrying bar and slidable in the slot of the first bar and a link connected with the intermediate portion of the lever and the rst bar.
4. A floor jack comprising a lever, an an- Chor fuicrum therefoil pivotaiiy connected in the county of Manitowoc and State of therewith, a har siidably connected With the Visoonsin, in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
