' WITNESSES: Y INVENTOR (sj/MMM 5k MM VM ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
`GHARLEY STEINEKE, `OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO HANS GUSTAV VON LILLIENSCHIOLD, OF GREEN POINT, NEW YORK.
cL'AM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 27,838, dated.V March 27, 1883. i Application filedOctober 24, 1G82. (No model.)
lo all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHARLEY STEINEKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented new anduseful Improvements in Flooring-Clamps, of which the followingis a specitication.
This invention consists in a iiooring-clamp in which are combineda push-bar adapted'to catch under the tenon of a floor-board, `a bracebar having a spur adapted to be driven into thejoist, and an adjusting-lever which has its fulcruin iu the brace-bar and is connected to the push-bar, and which carries a pawl enga-g; ing with teeth in the brace-bar. The pushbar and brace-bar are connected together by means of links pivoted thereto on their'oppo" site sides, in addition to the adjusting-lever, i
for the purpose of keeping the partsin a proper position relatively to each other.
This invention is illustrated in theiaccompanying drawings, in which Figure l isaside view, showing the clamp in position for use. Fig. 2 is a plan or top View, partly in section. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the adj Listing-lever.
Similarlettersindicate correspondin g parts. i The letter A designates the push-bar; B, the brace-barg-C, the adj usting-lever; D, its pawl; E, the teeth ofthe brace-bar, and F the links which unite the bars.
The push-har A is widened and tapered at one end in a proper manner to catch under the tenonof the floor-board which is to be clamped,
, and the brace-bar B has a spur, g, also at one end thereof, which is sharpened, so that it can be driven into the joist to which the loorboards are to be nailed. The adjusting-lever O is fulcruined on the brace-bar B in a pivot, 11 and is connected to the push-bar A, at the lower end,by a pivot, t', it being bifurcated to straddle the bars, while the pawl D is hung to the lever in the proper manner to engage the teeth E ot' the brace-bar, such teeth being formed inithe top edge of the bar. The links F are situated on the opposite sides of the bars A B, and both links are connected to each bar by a common pivot, j or k.
| In applying the clamp to use, it is placed upon thejoist with the push-barprojecting in` the direction of the floor-board to be clamped. The spur g is then driven into the j'oist, as by means of a hammer, and the lever C is swung in the proper direction to force the push-bar against the board, when by the engagement ofthe pawl D with the teeth E the lever, together With the push-bar, is firmly held in the position to which it may be adjusted. The effect ofthe links F is to hold the bars A B and the lever C ina determined position, so that they preserve `the proper relation toward each other and require no adjustment in applying the clampl to use. v
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the push-bar adapted to catch under the tenon of the iioorfboard, the
brace-bar having a spur adapted to be driven into, the joist, the adjusting-lever having its fuleruin on the brace-bar and having one end connected to the push-bar, and the pawl hnng t0 the adj listing-lever and engaging with teeth in the brace-bar.
`2. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set fort-h, of the push-bar adapted to catch under the tenon of the licor-board, the brace-bar having a spur adapted to be driven into the joist, the adjusting-lever having its fulcrum on the brace-bar and having one end connected to the push-bar, the pawl hung to theadjusting-lever and engaging with teeth in the brace-bar, and the links pivoted to the bars on opposite sides thereof,'for the purpose of connecting the same to each other.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set myhaud and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
W. HAUEF, CEAS. WAHLERS.
