Be it known that I, KANzABUno MIYASAKI, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Ornaments, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to an ornament pri marily designed for hat decoration.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character wherein the same is constructed for decorative purposes and is imitative of insects, flowers, and the like, said articles being useful upon ladies hats or for other ornamental or decorative purposes.

Another obj ect of the invention is the provision of an article of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form to assure ornamentality, attractiveness and is useful for decorative purposes.

A further object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.

Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the article comprises a bottom or base section A preferably made from relatively stiff pasteboard, although the same may be made from any other suitable material having the required stiness or rigidity, and is cut to Specification of Letters Patent.

form front and rear wings 5 and 6, respectively, which are termed foot lobes, and an intermediate body portion 7 therebetween, while mounted upon this base A and extending-laterally'both forwardly and rearwardly areupper front and back lobes simulative of wing sections 8 and 9, respectively, these lobes or wings being correspondingly shaped tothe wings 5 and 6 of said base and are only attached to the latter at a point contiguous to the body portion 7 of said base.

Mounted on the upper or outer exposed faces of the wings 8 and 9 respectively is a plurality of petals 10, each being preferably made from silk material folded on itself into elongated formation, and said petals are arranged in close relation to each other and fastened in place preferably through adhesive substance, although the same may be otherwise fastened. The petals 10 are disposed in associated relation in rows 11,

l2 and 13, the petals of one row'being colored distinctive from another row, these particular rows being arranged upon the wings 8, while the petals upon the wings 9 are arranged in a circuitous course about medial puffs 11 which are preferably made from silk material shaped and positioned upon the said wings 9 as shown. Arranged medially upon the body portion 7 is a row of longitudinally disposed puffs 15 which simulate the body of the insect, such as the butterfly, and are colored as required.

Mounted at the head end of the body portion 7 are forwardly divergent feathers 1G which simulate the feelers of the insect.

The petals and puffs in their arrangement and hue give the ornamental effect to the article simulative of the buttery so that said article can be used for ornamental purposes in decorating hats or garments or for any other ornamental purposes.

It is of course to be understood that the shape of the article can be changed to simulate other insects if desired.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and use of the herein de scribed ornament will be readily understood and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. An article of the character described comprising a base cut to provide a body portion -and laterally extending lobes, upper' lobes secured to the base at points adjacentto the body portion thereof, and a plurality of petals formed from yfolded Iflexible :fabric secured to the upper faces of the lobes and providing a covering therefor, and puffs made from fabric material and vmounted upon the body portion and certain of said lobes.

3.
