TOY DOliL.
SPECIFICATTON formingpart of Letters Patent No. 294,888, dated March 11, 1884. Application filed September 4, 1983. (No model.)
I toy dolls made of card-board or other suitable thin material 5 and it consists in making that class of dolls substantially in the manner herein described, and attaching them to panels in such manner that they can be used for the purposes of decoration, amusement, and for holiday or other gifts.
The object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive but ornate toy that may be used for decorative and other purposes; and I attain this purpose by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, and in which 7 Figure 1 is a front elevation of one style of my toy dolls attached to a panel; Fig. 2, a side view of the same; Fig. 3, a front elevation of a body-piece before the dress is attached, and Fig. 4 detached details of arms and hands.
As illustrated in the drawings, the toy consists of a bodypiece, A, arms and heads B, dress 0, cloak D, hat E, stockings F, shoes G, and panel H.
The body-piece A- can be made of any desired size from card-board or other suitable thinmateriai. The said body-piece isprovided with a head, a, which I preferably make of a separate piece of card-board or paper, nicely colored and embossed to representa human faceeither infant or adultand adhere it to the upper part of the body-piece, as shown in Fig. 3. The body-piece A may be cut to any form that is best suited to receive the style of dress that is to be fixed thereon; and it may include the feet and legs, as shown in Fig. 3.
The dress 0 may be made to represent any style of costume and of any preferred fabric. Said dress is made by adhering the edges of the fabric to the back of the body-piece A and fulling the intermediate parts of the fabric to simulate the different parts of a dress upon the exposed side of the doll.
Thearms and hands B are attached in their proper places to the front part of the dress C, and may be so arranged as to be partially covered by the cloak D or any other portion of the apparel, and, when preferred, flowers, as shown in the drawings, toys, or any other article, may be shown asbeing held in one or both hands.
The hat E is made of any suitable fabric formed into proper shape and adhered to the back of the head a but said hat may be changed in shape to suit the style of costume, or, when preferred, it may be entirely dispensed with.
The stockingsF are made by pasting strips of suitable fabric, preferably striped or figured, across the lower parts of the legs above the shoes.
The shoes G may be represented by coloring the feet with varnish of any suitable color below the fabric for the stockings or by adhering pieces of any suitable material to the feet.
From the foregoing it will be seen that all the different parts of the costume are permanently fixed to the body-piece A. After the dressing of the doll is accomplished, the doll is secured permanently to the face of any suit-able panel, H, and the toy, as thus completed, may be used for the amusement of children, for decorating rooms, or for any purpose to which itv is suited.
I claim as my invention As a newarticle of manufacture, a toy doll composed of a body-piece, A, of cardboard or other suitable thin material, substantially in the form shown and described, so as to expose the face and feet, having simulated apparel permanently secured thereto, and the whole permanently attached to a panel, H, as and for the purpose herein specified.
