BEDRO OFI-CHAIR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented JF une 12, 191W.
Application led February 11, 1916. Serial No. 77,662.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, KATE Ross, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Lincoln, in the county of Logan and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bedroom-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvedchair for use as an invalid or bedroom chair and by a grown person or child, the object of the invention being to provide an improved chair of this class which is ornamental in design and which is extremely convenient and useful and may be readily moved from place to place, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair constructed in accordance with my inven` tion.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same showing the small seat'in one positionin dotted lines and in another position in full lines.
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same.
The lower portion of my improved chair is formed by a box1 which is rectangular in form and the top 2 of which forms the seat. In the side walls 3 of the box are supports 4 for a slide 5, which supports enable the slide to be removed when desired and also enable the slide to be adjusted to any desired height. The rear side of the box is formed by a pairl of -hinged doors 6.
Front legs 7 are at the front corners of the box and rear legs 8 are at the rear corners thereof. The lower portions of the legs project downwardly several inches below the bottom of the boxso that the box is supported above the iioor, and the legs are provided with suitable casters 9 which enable the chair to be readily moved from place to place. The legs extend upwardly above the chair seat or top of the box, the upper extensions of the rear legs-being higher than Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the those of the front legs, and arms 1() are provided, the front ends of which are supported and secured on the upper ends of the front legs, the rear ends of the said arms being secured to the upper extensions of the rear legs. A back 11 is secured between the upper extensions of the rear legs.
The seat is provided with an opening closed by a removable plate 12, which when removed may be hung from a hook 13 on one side of the box, the plate being provided with a rim 14k for engagement with the hook. On the opposite side of the box is a rack 15. This raclr is for use in holding a roll of paper and the box has an opening in the side wall to which the rack is attached to enable the paper to be drawn from the roll.
A seat 16 for a child is hinged to the front side of the seat 2, as at 17, and hence the seat 16 is adapted to be turned upwardly and arranged on the seat 2 for use and is also adapted to be turned forwardly and downwardly and arrangedin front of the box when not in use, asshown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. Said seat-16 has an opening which is smaller than that-in the top of the box. A closure 16a is provided for the opening in the seat 16.
A suitable cushionl 18 is also provided whichmay be placedon the seat or removed therefromat will.
Having thus described my invention, I.
claim: p
A chair of the class described having a box, a seat forming the cover for the box and provided with an opening and a closure for said opening and a supplemental seat hinged to the front side of the box and adapted to be arranged on the first named seat or turned downwardly on the front side of the box at will.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.`
KATE -CROSS.
